James and Nelly Meek are my 4 gr grandparents. I did not have who she was or dates other than from the Census. This ties them even more closely. I often wondered if the Lawsons and the Meeks were tied, because they lived so close together. James and Nelly had a son, John Allen Meek who married Cynthia Frogge, of the Frogge-Strother line in Clinton Co. John and Cynthia had 11 children, one of them James S. Meek, who was a preacher. James and his in-laws, the Crocketts, started Beech Bottom Church at Rolan in Clinton Co. James S. Meek and Nancy J. Crockett were my gr gr grandparents. They came to Barren Co.

(the part that later became Clinton Co.) a few years later. He was killed in the War of 1812, but I believe Nelly lived there until her death bet.1860-1870. Nelly makes statements in several pension applications for herself and for Alexander BEATY. She says she lived with the Billy BEATY family from the time she was a small child. The BEATYs lived in Washington Co., VA in the part that became Sullivan Co., TN from at least 1776 until they moved to Cumberland Co. around 1801. I don't know anything else about her family.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: NASH - LAWSON - BUNCH - EASTER Families Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oAB.2ACE/2443 Message Board Post: Thank you so much for emailing and for your Message on the Message Board. No, I have not read this book, but I will search for it and make a point of reading it. I have often wondered about the MELUNGEONS. We have always been told that our NASH family had Cherokee Indian blood in us, but I have never been able to trace this fact, to prove it, or to disprove it. I have 4 wonderful books on the Cherokee Indians, as my first husband's family also had Cherokee in their family, and I have done a lot of research, but to no avail on the NASH family. I have not heard of Cole Camp, Missouri, or Warsaw. But again, I will look them up. My NASH family came from North Carolina (we believe), into Cumberland County, Kentucky. Then traveled into Indiana (in the 1830s, into Clay/Richland Counties, Illinois, in the 1840s. I actually have 4 NASH lines, that I am tracing. I believe that they may all be brothers, but I have not found the exact connection as yet. They are as follows: 1. CLAIBORN NASH born Kentucky, and wife Susan (maiden name unknown, born 1790-1800, VA). I know that Claiborn was found in Cumberland County, KY, in 1830, as I have a copy of paperwork showing that he transfered a Deed to a Arthur Yates, for Land located on Bear Creek, dated 8/13/1830 - G-134. However, his name is spelled Glaiborn MARSH. Our NASH family surname has been found listed as NASH, MASH, MARSH, NANCE. Very confusing, and very hard to trace. 2. William NASH, born 1802-1812, North Carolina or Kentucky, it is believed that his wife's name was Sally (maiden name unknown), but this has not been proven. 3. John W. "Jackson or Jack" Nash, born 1812-1815, Kentucky, married Hannah (born 1808 - 1820, Kentucky or Virginia, maiden name unknown). We have always been told that Hannah was of full blood Cherokee descent. We have also been told that John married her to give her a Christian Name. I have not been able to prove or disprove this fact. 4. UNKNOWN NASH, father of Claiborne NASH, born 1835, Clay County, Illinois. This Claiborne is my Great Grandfather. He married Amanda Nash, daughter of John W. Nash and wife Hannah (listed # 3 above). I believe that the Caliborn Nash listed as #1 above, is the namesake for my Great Grandfather Claiborne Nash. I do not know who my Claiborne's father is. I do know that his Mother's name was Louvina (also spelled LaVina, and I have also seen her listed as Vivian or Vivan, I do not know her maiden name), she was born 1809, Kentucky. I know that she remarried on July 17, 1847, in Richland County, Illinois. She married a Richard M. Pierce, Sr. They had 3 more children, and he died in 1862. I lost all track of Louvina and children, after Richard's death. Yes, I Do Believe that Claiborne Nash and Amanda Nash (my Great Grandparents) were actually first cousins, before their marriage on March 11, 1870, in Richland County, Illinois. I know that I have many Lawson family members listed, and that I have them traced back to William Lawson, Sr., from Montrose, Scotland, married ot Rebekah "Unknown", about 1728, Montrose, Scotland. Ephriam Easter 1781 Virginia married Mary Snider. Also have a couple of Reynolds and a Goins, who married into my Kitchell family. Any help with these families will be greatly appreciated. I just cannot find the exact link to either the Bunch or the Easter family, and know that it is probably in plain site, lol. I just know that I see them together with my NASHes all the way from North Carolina in the very early 1800s, into St. Francois County, Missouri in 1880.

Surnames: Lawson, Bunch, Nash, Goins, Reynolds Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/oAB.2ACE/2440.1.1 Message Board Post: I find your post intriguing. My great grfather was Berry H. Lawson. He is listed in the 1850/1860 Cumberland Co., KY Census with his grmother Bunch and 2 Lawson women. According to his Civil War pension app. he stated he was born in October 1844 in Cole Camp, but that he didn't know much more about it, because the records were burned in his grmother's house several years before the war. I have searched in vain for a Cole Camp in Cumberland or neighboring counties. But Berry H. had an uncle, James Butler Bunch who married a Mary Reynolds in Missouri before the war. It seems the Bunch and Lawsons went back and forth between KY and MO quite frequently for those days. Anyway, there is a Cole Camp in Benton Co., MO. Do you know how close it is to Warsaw? And have you ever read Brent Kennedy's book on The MELUNGEONS? He has connections between Nashes and Goins and Bunchs. He also lists the name Lawson. My 2nd gr grfather Lorenzo D. Bunch claimed to be half Cherokee. When the Cherokee were run out of KY and TN, near Clinton Co. and Cmberland, they went to a corner of MO before they continued to present OK. Several Cherokee descendants are still in MO. Hope this is helpful.

I got my copy at Ivy's Bookstore in Glasgow, KY. It is a very good read about five men and their yearly hunting jaunt to the Collins' place in Lawson Bottom. It brings the whole area to life like you couldn't imagine.
