    3. Elaine, John and Rachel are clearly listed in the 1880 census, along with their children. From LDS... John MELTON Self M Male W 37 KY Farming KY KY Rachel MELTON Wife M Female W 36 KY Keeping House KY KY Mary MELTON Dau S Female W 14 KY At Home KY KY Ellen Brady MELTON Dau S Female W 12 KY At Home KY KY Willie MELTON Son S Male W 9 KY KY KY Wesly MELTON Son S Male W 7 KY KY KY Viola MELTON Dau S Female W 4 KY KY KY Onie MELTON Dau S Female W 2 KY KY KY (LDS does have a tree on John and Rachael) From Hertiage Quest images... the 1870 census of Cumberland Co, it shows only 2 Melton households in the Whestone precint, Burkesville PO.. First -- Simon Melton, 43, M, W, Farmer, b. KY Rachael , 42, F, W Keeping house, b. KY William, 24, M, W, works on farm, b. KY Franklin, 17, ditto James, 15, ditto Sarah, 2, F, W, -, b KY. Second -- Ambros Melton, 23, M, W, Farmer, b KY Margaret, 22, F, W, Keeping house, b KY Charles, 1 M, W, -, b KY Simon could NOT possibly be John's father as he was only 14-15 years older. I think John was missed by the census or he moved to Cumberland Co after 1870. I don't see any John Melton listed in KY census during 1870 or 1860 that would be the correct age.
