My grandmother was Mary Myrtle Spear, daughter of Samuel J. & Permelia Burnett Spear. She was born May 28, 1886 in Clay County and died in Davidson County December 17, 1972. My grandfather was William "Willie" Martin Savage, son of Andrew J. & Maud (Mary O.) Atchley. He was born December 8, 1885 in Clay County and died (hanged himself) in Davidson County TN April 27, 1943. All of the above are buried at New Hope Cemetery near Moss in Clay County, as is Carmack Dunning Savage. I have some information on her and am acquainted with a granddaughter still living in Clay County. Carmack is buried beside her husband Charlie Edgar Savage who was a younger brother of my grandfather. I will try to contact the granddaughter today for more information since I need it for my records also. I would like to correspond with you privately about other SPEAR and SAVAGE family connections in Clay County. jminatra@bellsouth.net

Surnames: Reecer Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/oAB.2ACE/2491.2.1.3.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank-you for your prompt reply and the information! The timing seems to be about right for Jack's death. My Dad doesn't remember much about him other than the general circumstances of his death. My Dad will be eighty this year and we have been trying to get as much information and stories from him as possible when he is willing to talk about his life. He remembers his Dunning grandparents and that John "died early". I think the Reecer's must have lived near Callie's grandparents because he talked about his grandmother (being mean) and locking up their chickens in her barn. The boys were afraid to ask for them back so they would loosen up a board from the barn to release the chickens then chase them home. Dad said that he left home with Ab Dunning to pick tomatoes when he was about 10 years old. Dad said that he "did as much work as a grown man 200 hampers a day @ 10 cents a hamper". Most of the boys picked tomatoes until their mid teens then went to work for either Firestone or Chrysler. After Callie died, my Dad did not keep in touch with his brothers. Avery, Dona, Callie and Avery's friend were in route to visit another of Callie's son who was in prison. There were hard feelings about the car accident, apparently, Avery was driving and some question remained as to his sobriety. The owner of the car, according to my father, was Avery's drinking friend. The friend and Callie sitting on the passenger side were both killed that day. He instantly, however, Callie survived about 10 hours. Hunter was already remarried and it wasn't long after that my parents divorced. My Mother didn't keep in touch with any of my Dad's family at all and little with hers. Dad began to travel with his job and my brothers and I saw him about twice a year until we were older and on our own. I have some data on Callie and Hunter's family: one picture of all the siblings probably taken 40 years ago also some birth & death dates. Let me know if you are interested. I would love to have a picture of Callie. I was almost 5 years old when she died. Kathy

I have never been to the cemetery. From the book: Single Stone Jack R. Johnson - b. 12/10/1911 d. 7/22/1943 no other inscriptions on stone. If he died in 1943, there should be an obit in Clay Co. newspaper. Next time I go to town, I'll stop by newspaper and see what I can find. Sandy

Callie had 6 childern with Hunter Reecer: Dona, still living, Lonnie (d), Avery (d), Everett (d), Buddie (my father, still living) and John (still living). I am interested in the dates on the tombstone for my Dad's half brother, Jack Roy Johnson. My Father believes his half brother was killed while working on the construction of a dam in Ciero, IN. Callie died as a result of injuries suffered in a car accident in Indianapolis IN. I believe she was already divorced from Hunter. Hunter has a daughter Molly from a 2nd marriage. I am curious about the tombstone dates for Jack Johnson. Any additional information about Callie would be appreciated. Thanks, Kathy
