    3. Forwarding FYI - I have no other information, but knowing there are a lot of McWhorter connections in Clinton County, thought some of you might recognize the name and be able to help. ~Sherri In the January/February 2006 edition of the Camp Chase Gazette magazine for Civil War Reenactors, the following query was printed. Family Sought to Place MOH Marker on Grave Salem, W. Va.--A Civil War roundtable is looking for descendants of a Medal of Honor recipient to give them permission to place a special marker at his grave. Walter McWhorter received the Medal for his actions capturing the Sixth Tennessee Infantry's Flag at Saylor's Creek, Virg. on April 6, 1865. He died at the age of 40 and was buried in Greenbrier Cemetery near the city of Salem. The roundtable needs the permission of the family before it can place the marker on his gravesite. It does not give any contact information. But I'm sure it could be had by contacting the Camp Chase Gazette, 800-624-0281 or 423-581-5630 or www.campchase.com. Not only is this my maiden name but the old spelling before my G. Grandfather Abner McWhortor changed it after moving from Jennings Co., IN. to Clark Co., MO. I still reside here. I'm sure we are all related even tho spellings differ. Another interest is that I have not found a direct descendent of a Union Veteran through my McWhortor name. I will be searching through my genealogy gleaning what I can soon. I will be elected the Nat'l President of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865 next August. I hold membership through my Dixon, Bales, DeFord and Calvert lines. The Calverts and DeFords married into the McWhortor line. If you can find time, please help this soldier and his descendents out by helping me get this query posted. In gratitude, Patricia McWhortor Mullenix, Nat'l Sr. Vice Pres.
