This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: RIGNEY, THOMAS, JONES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jAB.2ACI/492.494 Message Board Post: I am also researching descendants of William RIGNEY (abt. 1895-after 1870) and Susannah (Susan) Carter RIGNEY (1822 -1885) of KY I am a descendant of Susannah’s (Susan) son Waymon RIGNEY (br. 1859) in Wayne Co., KY. My research shows Waymon’s brothers as: Martin, James A., Harrison B., Buford, Edmond , William H., Newton Jasper, and Meekin J.RIGNEY. Daughters, Lucy, Rutha, Francis M., and Lucetta J. Are you related? Waymon and his wife Sally THOMAS (Barren Co., KY) had a son Willis Leslie Floyd RIGNEY who was my grandfather (1897-1970). My father was Harold Rigney. I have a great picture of Waymon RIGNEY cir. 1880-1890 to share with anyone interested. I also have another old picture of Waymon and wife Sally THOMAS and their children I would love to share. The family history I have uncovered in the past 20 years and have recently confirmed with some new RIGNEY cousins who contacted me from Tenn. and KY also have heard that Waymon was the illegitimate son of Susannah. I had heard from my late grandma Rigney that the father was a man named JONES who may have been a traveling ‘drummer’ or peddler. Don't know if it is true. I don’t know if this was a consensual affair or not, but William and Susannah continued to have children and Waymon continued to be listed on all the following census records as a RIGNEY. But, this means, I may not be a RIGNEY after all. I would like to prove or disprove if possible… I am looking for anyone who may know anything about this parentage. It sounds like it was known in the family according to some deceased children of Waymon’s. I would love to share info with anyone from these lines and would also like to find a MALE descendant of one of Waymon’s brothers who would be willing to do a DNA test to compare to one of my living male RIGNEY cousins to see if we can prove Waymon was or wasn't a RIGNEY and the son of William RIGNEY. Could also use any advice on the best way to have the DNA test done or lab if you know anything about this subject. I understand I need to have male RIGNEYS to test instead of females. This is why I am looking for relatives of Waymon's brothers. Thanks for any help. You can contact me direct at lisacaputo@san.rr.com . Best Wishes…. Lisa Caputo, San Diego
Hi, Thomas. I am Teresa Jo (Smith) Hamilton. I have been doing a lot of looking around for family too. There is a William Rigney in my family. He is my Great-great-grandfather. My William was born April 01, 1854 in Kentucky. His Father and Mother were also from Kentucky. His fathers name was Buford Rigney born in 1816. His Mother was Peggy Reno not sure when she was born. Still doing a lot of looking myself. Williams Daughter Minnie was the 2nd wife of my great-grandfather Robert Lafayette "Lafe" Smith. If this is in your line let me know. I have yet to run into any in my family that is looking. It would be nice to know I am not out here alone. Hope this can help. HI Teresa and Lisa, Buford Rigney, b. 1816 in Pittsylvania Co., VA was my 2-gr grandfather. I descend from he and his wife Annjeanette Young Rigney, through their son, Josiah Rigney, b. 1868 in Fentress Co., TN. I had in my database that Buford Rigney, b. 1816 was married first to a woman named Lucinda, b. 1813. They had eight children. I thought he married next a woman named Patsy Mitchell with whom he had William T. Rigney, b. 1854 and died in 1934. He then married my 2-gr grandmother, Annjeanette Young with whom he had five more children of which my gr-grandfather, Josiah Rigney was one. Are you saying that Patsey Mitchell was actually Peggy Reno? If so, I would love to have the correct information on this Patsey Mitchell. The information I have is that Buford Rigney, b. 1816, VA was the brother, of William Rigney, b. abt 1810 who married Susannah Carter. I would love to have the information on Waymon L. Rigney also. I have that he was born 1859 in Clinton Co., KY and died in 1926 buried in the Caney Ford Cemetery in Etiole, Barren Co., KY. I don't have the information on his wife. William Rigney, b. abt 1810 and Buford Rigney, b. 1816 were sons of Griffith Rigney, b. abt 1785 and Lavina Taylor, b.abt 1789 who married in 1805 in Pittsylvania Co., VA. I would love to exchange information with you both. Best regards, Joanna Smith Dun tjham51@peoplepc.com wrote: > Hi, Thomas. I am Teresa Jo (Smith) Hamilton. I have heard of a Rigney Cemetery atop a mountain near the Wayne County, Fentress County, and Clinton County lines. There are supposed to be two Rigney children with inscribed stones there. I will put the information on the net if I get to check them out this fall. Gary D. Would Peggy's maiden name possibly have been Reneau? That name is common now in Clinton County. Just a thought. Gary D.
