I came across this little bit of additional info. Hope it helps. Nel from EARLY TIMES IN CLINTON COUNTY, Vol. 1, Rev, Ed., by Jack Ferguson page 420 Alexander Hayes (footnote) 23 "The name of this individual is variously spelled "Hayes" and "Hays". A son of Nicholas (ca 1730 - 1803) and Alse (Hunter) Hayes (ca 1730), he was born in Virginia around 1769. He came to Clinton County fairly early; he had 200 acres surveyed on Spring Creek on June 27, 1799. His wife was Elizabeth Travis, born in Maryland in 1779, who was a sister of the Hannah Travis, born in Georgia in 1786, who married Soloman Long. Their children were: Thomas; Lewis; James; Nancy (1802) who married Abner Wright; Mahala (Carson); Matilda (Smith); Malinda (Sandusky); Sarah (Westrope); and Emmaline who married James Beaty. Both Alexander Hayes and his wife died the same day, December 27, 1863. He died first and she died later that night."
