    3. Bob, You are quite right about everything you wrote. Jacob and his family went to St. Claire Co., MO. They are buried at the Freeman/Holsapple Cemetery there. 3. Gary et al.: William M. Holsapple was married to Nancy Bristow March 29, 1829 at Poplar Mountain, Clinton Co.n To the best of my knowledge, they had five children: Louisa A., Martha Ann., Lucrecia Katherine, Virginia Melissa, and Crawford Louis. I can account for their children and grandchildren, but not for their great-grandchildren. Certainly some of them are the unaccounted for Holsapples throughout Kentucky, but I have been unable to make any connections, especially with the Kentucky Holsapples to the west of Clinton Co. Help anyone. -- Patrick J. McCann, Jr. Dallas, TX CRESCIT SUB PONDERE VIRTUS

    2. A few more notes on the Parmley family. My connection to the family is through Rev. William Cross, son Edward Cross, who married Elizabeth Brents. Their daughter, Rebecca Cross, married Elijah Lyons Hopkins, son of Dennis Hopkins & Polly Williams. Wayne Co., Ky. Pioneers - June Baldwin Bork, p. 72 ------------------------------------------------------------------- John Parmley was born 4 Jun 1762, 10 miles from Elizabeth, Essex Co., New Jersey on 1 Sept. 1755; in 1784 he was on tax list of Wilkes Co., NC; in 1778 his son John enlisted as a substitute for him in Wilkes County and in 1784 was on the tax list there as was his brother Ephraim. In 1778, John enlisted as a substitute for his father, Giles. At that time, he was living at home with his parents and was still there in 1781. In 1784 he was on the tax list of Wilkes Co., NC After the Revolutionary War, he marched to Georgia, where he remained for a year. Next, he moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee, where he resided for 8 years. Then to Claiborne Co., Tenn for a year and on to Cumberland Co., Ky., the Eastern part of Wayne and later about 1815 to the Western part of Wayne, near the Clinton Co., border. John was a great hunter and hunted bear on the Clinch Mountain, coming to Kentucky from the Clinch River. In the 1810 census of Wayne, was in Missouri for 1 year, but returned to Russell County, Ky., where he was in 1830 and 1838. 3. Patrick, The oldest tombstone I have found of a Holsapple in Clinton County is that of William M. He was born on May 6, 1805 and died on April 4, 1886. William M. was the son of Crawford Holsapple and the husband of Nancy (1811-1882). Mr. Holsapple was buried in the Lawson Cemetery. Does anyone know the maiden name of Nancy? Gary D. 3. Who do you need in your search? I put them into a data base for a book I did on Fentress County. I may have some of the Clinton County names included, but I don't promise. I just know the Tennessee and Kentucky folks in Whitewright use to write back to the Fentress County newspaper and have articles in there about 2-3 times monthly. The migrant families and individual were mentioned and the reader got an idea of how much the individuals were homesick for their old homes. Also, the read gained an idea as to the daily life in Texas. Gary D. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: FROST, DANIEL, DENNEY, JONES, RAINS, MASSENGALE Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jAB.2ACI/1836.1 Message Board Post: Below are notes from Lorna Gheen a researcher of the Parmley family. The spelling of the last name gets a lot of abuse but that is the case in family history. Dale Jones John was an American Revolutionary Veteran, pension # 530-637, bounty land warrent #36619-160-55. He and his wife donated land for the Baptist Church in the Parmleysville area. Information came form Linda Murtaugh. John and Rebecca had at least 13 children; he and Elizabeth had one child. John Parmley was born June 4, 1762 in Elizabeth, Essex Co., NJ, and died April 25, 1848 in Clinton Co., KY. He was son of Giles Parmley and wife, Margaret Frazee. He married (1) Rebecca Cross Dec 1, 1785 in Wilkes Co., NC, daughter of Edward Cross and Elizabeth Gibbons. She was born about 1765 in York Co., VA and died after 1830 in Russell Co., KY. He married 2) Elizabeth Pittman on January 1, 1845 in Clinton Co., KY. He married a third time when he was 80 years old, the young brides name is unknown to me at this time. Children of John Parmley and Rebecca Cross were: (1) John Parmley b about 1787 Hawkins Co., TN, d. about 1841 Roane Co., TN. m. Catherine Gibson; (2) Eleanor/Elander Parmley b. about 1788, m. Francis Biggs March 20, 1808 in Cumberland Co., KY; (3) Robert Parmley b March 4, 1789, NC d. September 12, 1875, Monticello, Wayne Co., KY. Married 1) Barbara Adair, m2) Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Hurt; (4) Rebecca Parmley b. about 1791, m. Lewis Foust on February 19, 1810 in Wayne Co., KY; (5) Elizabeth Parmley b. October 14, 1793 Wayne Co., KY, d. March 20, 1892, married Samuel Ingram; (6) Mary "Polly" Parmley born about 1795, m. John Holt in Wayne Co., KY (7) Henry Parmley born about 1798 in NC, married Loueza Unknown; (8) Garner Parmley born about 1801, died August 1874 Wayne Co., KY, married Mary Adair; (9) Aladdin Muhlenberg "Berg" Parmley born about 1803, d 1852 Kimbell, Marion Co., TN, married Lucinda Christal; (10) Diza Parmley b November 13, 1804 Wayne Co., KY, d March! 23, 1864 Metcafe Co., KY, married Elijah Stephens; (11) Ellen/Eleanor Parmley b. about 1808, no further information (12) Hiel C. Parmley, born about 1810 in Wayne Co., KY, d. after 1880, married Nancy Lane; (13) Jane Parmley born about 1812, married William Hereford on September 2, 1835 in Russell Co., KY. Child of John Parmley and Elizabeth Pittman is (14) Nancy Evaline Parmley b. November26, 1845 Clinton Co., KY, d. November 1, 1927, married Henry Lawson ( Lorna Gheen ) John Parmley was my 4th. great grandfather . My line : John Parmley - Rebecca Parmley m: Lewis Foust sr. : Lewis Foust jr. m: Telitha Phipps : Henderson Foust m. Avey Smith - Dorah Ellen Foust m. Marion Kidd . My Mom was Fronie Ellen Kidd m. Willie Guffey Dobbs . (Edna Dobbs) In 1778, John enlisted as a substitute for his father, Giles. At that time, he was living at home with his parents and was still there in 1781. In 1784 he was on the tax list in Wilkes county, NC. After the Revolutionary War, he marched to Georgia, where he remained for a year. Next, he moved to Hawkins Co., TN, where he resided for 8 years. Then it was on to Claiborne Co., TN for a year and from there into Cumberland Co., KY, for four or five years. Finally, he came to Wayne Co., KY, where he lived at Parmleysville in the eastern part of Wayne, and later about 1815 he moved on to the western part of Wayne, near the Clinton Co. border. John was a great hunter and hunted bear on the Clinch Mountain, coming to KY from the Clinch River. In the 1810 census of Wayne, was in Missouri for 1 year, but returned to Russell Co., KY, where he was in 1830 and 1838. John and Rebecca were amoung the founders of the Bethel Baptist Church on the Little South Fork, near Parmleysvill ! on the 3rd. Saturday in July 1810. He had bought land on the Little South Fork 19 December 1809 and was granted a letter of dismission from the Bethel Church in Steptember 1828. John sold land in Hawkins Co., TN, 18 September 1797. He was one of the men in the Counties of Washington and Sullivan in arrears of pay for services in the Revolutionary War. He had a Revolutionary War pension. (Edna Dobbs) The circumstances of his burial are interesting. None of his kids attended, as they were estranged because they didn't think he should have taken a child bride at age 80. The account goes on to tell how his body was taken to the grave on a sled - and that he was buried on the Pittman Farm, (his father-in-law by wife #2). (Lorna Gheen)

    1. WWI Draft Registration Cards
    2. Tom Johnson
    3. FYI . . . for all you good folks out there in Clinton County Land. Ancestry has completed indexing and digitizing nearly 24 million World War One Draft Registration Cards (1917-1918). To celebrate they are offering free access to this database with registration (your name and email address) from November 12th thru 25th, 2005. Just go to the webpage below and click on the WWI Draft Cards link near the top . . . http://www.militaryindexes.com/worldwarone/index.html In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men living in the United States completed a World War I draft registration card. These registration cards represent approximately 98% of the men under the age of 46. The total U.S. population in 1917-1918 was about 100 million individuals. In other words, close to 25% of the total population is represented in these records. The WWI draft registration cards database can be an extremely useful resource because it covers a significant portion of the U.S. male population in the early twentieth-century. If you had family in the United States during WWI, you are likely to find at least one relative’s information within this large collection. In addition, these cards contain more than just names and dates; they contain significant genealogical information such as birthplace, citizenship status, and information on the individual’s nearest relative.
