I would welcome any help on Micky we think her last name is Brown but unable to prove it. Thanks, Barbara eor@saber.net

    2. Rex Bertram
    3. Hi all. I am searching for information regarding my BRANNUM/BRANHAM family of KY, having come there from Stokes Co., NC. My GGGG grand-father was Richard BRANNUM/BRANHAM who was born in Stokes Co., NC in 1789. He enlisted in the Army in Stokes Co. in 1809, and signed up for 5 years service, having fought during the War of 1812. He married about 1814, and had 4 children: James W. 1815 Mary 1819 John 1820 Andrew Jackson 1830 Richard was in moved all over. He appears in Overton Co., TN in 1850. By 1860, he is in Logan Co., KY where his oldest son, James W. was living. Richard lived out his life in Logan Co., having died there sometime late in the year of 1860. Richard was the son of Barnabus BRANHAM who was born about 1745 in Goochland Co., VA. Barnabus moved from VA to Stokes Co., NC, then to Roane Co., TN, and finally to Clinton Co., KY, where it is pressumed that he died. Richard's brother, George, moved to Clinton Co., KY about 1840, and died there in 1873. Many of George's descendants are still in Clinton Co. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. 2. Rex Bertram
    3. Hi. George and family are listed in Nashville, district 193, page 277, Davidson Co., on the 1930 census as follows: George F. McWhorter 26 TN TN TN Addie M. 25 TN TN TN Fred J. 5 TN TN TN Edward L. 2 1/2 TN TN TN Edna C. 7/12 TN TN TN It should be noted that living next door is this family: Leo McWhorter 52 KY KY KY Griffie E. 48 TN TN TN George HEARN (father-in-law) 72 (widowed) TN TN TN This could easily be George's parents. Having said that, I have found a George McWhorter in 1920, Clinton Co., KY who is exact age to be your George F. He is listed with his parents as follows: George W. McWhorter 50 KY KY KY Nettie 39 KY KY KY Winnie 19 KY KY KY George 16 KY KY KY Annie 15 KY KY KY Millard 11 KY KY KY Lewis 5 KY KY KY Pauline 3 9/12 KY KY KY Caleb P. 9/12 KY KY KY The same 16 year old George above is listed as George "G" in 1910 Clinton Co., in the same family as above. The listing is as follows: George W. McWhorter 40 KY KY KY Nettie M. 30 KY KY KY Winnie D. 9 KY KY KY George G. 7 KY KY KY Annie M. 5 KY KY KY William M. 7/12 KY KY KY William "M" must be the "Millard" from above) Certainly I could be wrong; but my personal feeling is that the George G. listed in 1910, and the 16 year old George listed in 1920, is probably your George, and is mistakenly listed as George "G" in 1910. I find no other George McWhrter in 1910 or 1920 who matches closely to the age of your George. Also, what appears to be "Leo" living next door to your George in Nashville, 1930 census, might actually be "Geo." Hope this helps Rex W. Bertram 132 S. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: SMITH Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jAB.2ACI/1846 Message Board Post: Eugene "Chester" Smith was born in Clinton County, KY in November of 1878, and was the son of Calvin Smith and Ellen Unknown. He was a minister and might have one time been the minister at Cedar Hill Church. A picture of Chester can be found on page 4 of CLINTON COUNTY, KENTUCKY, A PICTORIAL HISTORY, VOLUME III, published by the Clinton County Historical Society in 1994. The caption under the picture reads as follows: Singing Group - Gospel Meeting - 1921 Below Cedar Hill Meeting House OVID SMITH, SALLY SMITH, Myrtle Burchett, Rufus Honeycutt, CHESTER SMITH, Schuyler Honeycutt. Chester married Sarah Helen ("Sally") UNKNOWN. They had four sons, Oakley Hoye Smith, Otis Paul Smith, Oren Hall Smith, and Ovid Roy Smith. Chester appears in the Clinton County census in 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920. In the 1930 census, Chester, Sarah, and Ovid were in Jamestown, Russell County, KY where Chester was the preacher in a Methodist Church. My aunt is the daughter of Ovid Smith and was never given much information about her grandparents. She recalls that Sarah remarried after Chester's death to an Unknown Rodgers/Rogers. Sarah died in April of 1959 in Adair County. My aunt thinks her grandmother Sarah was buried at Cedar Hill Cemetery next to Chester. I would be very grateful if someone could do a cemetery lookup for Chester and Sarah and provide me with the information on their headstones. Additionally, I am interested in exchanging information with anyone connected to this Smith family. I have only been researching for a short time and find myself not quite experienced enough to research the Smith surname. If e-mailing me directly, please put Eugene Chester Smith or Chester Smith in the subject line. Thanks in advance. Valerie Locke Louisville, KY valsusan@aol.com

    3. This was published in "The Oklahoman" newspaper in Oklahoma City. Thought it might be of interest to some of you folks on the list. I found several land records that were very helpful. The Bureau of Land Management-Eastern States recently announced that the General Land Office Records Web site is back on line at www.glorecords.blm.gov. The project has scanned and imaged more than 4.2 million records since 1989. Records include homesteads, patents, military warrants, and railroad grants from the 30 public land states dating back to the 1780's. They are searchable by state and surname. Scanned images of the original records can also be downloaded and printed. also, further down in the article . . . The Missouri State Archives Land Patents Project has transcribed information from the land patents and created an online database at . . . www.sos.mo.gov/archives/land. Patents list the name of the person(s) who aquired the land, the purchase date and patent date, as well as a legal land description including township and range, name of county and number of acres sold. Ferguson, b. 1910 in VA and Martha b. 1811 in KY and living in cumberland Co., KY. Joseph Young is buried in Lawson Cemetery in Clinton ans his headstone lists him as a Farrier. His wife's father was listed as a blacksmith. The Holsapple family lived in the same area and married into the Young family and also into the Ferguson family. I corresponded with Jerry a few years ago. However, I must state that there is no reason to believe that Thomas died in 1869. I have the deed dated 1869 that you mentioned. Indeed, it does state that she was the administrator of her husband "Thomas's" estate; but that certainly doesn't imply that he died that year. Eliza sold the land in 1869, and she states that she has the right to sell it because she is the administrator of his estate. According to a great grand child of Thomas (who died just a few years ago), Thomas fought, and was killed during the Civil War. I would need something other than this deed to convince me that he didn't die until 1869. Thanks again for your response. Your cousin, Rex

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jAB.2ACI/1843.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Dennis. Yes... there is no doubt in my mind that Elsenia in 1880 is Dulcina. According to family information, she was called "Cena" or "Sina". Indeed, Eva, Thomas L., and Clayton were all children of James GIST and Mary Bell FERGUSON. Eva was my great grandmother. She married Robert Montrea BERTRAM. In 1910 and 1920, "Cassie" is listed as Catherine. That is how I came by her name. She was always called "Cassie" by family. I have a copy of each of James GIST's marriage records. He married Mary FERGUSON 6 Sept. 1885. Eva was their first child. She was born 19 Oct. 1886. Thomas was born in July 1888. Clayton was born Oct. 1890. James married Cassie Malone 21 May 1899. James and Cassie had a daughter, Odie, born 1907. Many of the above people are buried in the Wray cemetery in Clinton Co. I have been there numerous times. According to a tombstone that was placed there just a few years ago, "Sena" WRAY died 1884. I cannot say for certain if that is accurat! e, but supsect it is since James married Mary Ferguson in Sept. 1885. A descendant placed some stones there for the family a few years ago, who did not have stones, and replaced a couple of others, including James GIST's stone, Cassie's stone, and Odie's stone. This descendant also placed a stone there for Eliza GIST (maiden name KEMMER) who was the mother of James GIST. However, Eliza did not have a stone there, and this stone was just placed there a few years ago. I am not confident that Eliza was actually buried there. Part of the reason for my questioning this info was that the death date given on her tombstone is 1880. However, the person that had the stone put in a few years ago, was definatly wrong. Eliza was alive and living with her daughter Annie Gist and her son-in-law James FERGUSON in Cumberland Co., TN in 1900. I also have a deed for Eliza in 1901. Eliza was from Cumberland Co. (was Bledsoe Co. before Cumberland Co. was created) and may be buried ther! e, especially if her husband, Thomas GIST was buried there. He died d uring the civl war, but I have never found a death date for him, nor do I know where he is buried. I really question whether Eliza (Kemmer) Gist is buried in Wray cemetery. If I can answer any further questions, feel free to let me know. Rex Bertram
