Hi all. I am looking for descendants of Barnabus BRANHAM, who came to Cumberland (Now Clinton) Co., KY before 1830. I would love to correspond with any of the descendants of Barnabus. I am currently working on a book about the descendants of Barnabus, and am working hard to correct a vast amount of incorrect information regarding this family. As much as I appreciate the work of Jack Ferguson, I have found many errors in the information regarding the BRANHAM family from the book, "Early Times In Clinton County, Vol. 2". This is in no way meant to knock Mr. Ferguson's work! He has done tons for us. It's just that far too many people make assumptions that everything in print must be correct. Such assumptions are never very safe. Currently, I am working on the family of Barnabus BRANHAM (b. ca 1823, s/o George W. Branham and Elleanor Maloney), and Lovina DAVIS. Some of the information from the "Early Times In Clinton County" book is incorrect regarding this family. There are also at least two other children who were born to Barnabus and Lovina who are not listed in the book, who died young. I am currently trying to "document" this family, and would be greatful for any help from descendants of theirs. Once again, although I am currently focused on Branabus and Lovina's family, I am working on all descendants of the elder Barnabus (ca1745), and would like to hear from any of his descendants. I'm looking for a marriage record of William Boyd Short, married to Caroline Wariner or Warren. Their only child, Charles McPherson Short. On Charles death certificate it mentions his parents names.. The closest that I can figure out that William probably got married in the late 60's but no later then 1872, because that's when Charles McPherson Short was born. I have not been able to place William Boyd Short on the 1870 census. So I want to think that he was married after 1870 but no later then 1872. Remember Charles was born in 1872. If you happen to have a marriage record book on hand could you please check the index. for William Boyd Short and Caroline Wariner or Warren. Charlotte
Hi all. I am in search of other CORCELIUS (Not sure of the spelling) researchers in Clinton Co. I am particularly interested in an Elizabeth CORCELIUS who was born abt 1827/28 in TN. She married James M. BRANHAM abt. 1851, probably in Clinton Co., KY. Three children were born to them..... George W. BRANHAM 1853 Nancy Jane BRANHAM 1855 Frances E. BRANHAM 1859 James and Elizabeth (with their family) are located in Clinton Co. on the census records through 1870. James apparently dies between 1870 and 1880. Elizabeth appears with her son, George W. BRANHAM on the 1880 census in Clinton Co. I am hoping to learn when Elizabeth died. Elizabeth was the d/o George and Ruth CORCELIUS. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. Surnames: Cecil Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jAB.2ACI/1852 Message Board Post: I am trying to figure out a Cecil line. In 1880 I have a Granville Parker in Scott Co., Tennessee who had a servant by the name of Abertine/Alvertain (sp) Cecil. By 1900 they were married and had been married 19 years, so obviously marrying in 1881. After some research I finally found in the 1870 census (Clinton Co.) Alvertain's mother - a Rachel Cecil who was born in 1835 in Kentucky. I believe she died before 1880. There were two other children in that census with them a Saphronia (sp) and a Mary. In this census Rachel was living just a few doors down from another Cecil, a Surelda (I believe the widow of James Cecil). In the 1860 census I find in Larue Co., a W. W. Cecil his wife Rachel, and a Wm. and a S. E. I am thinking maybe the S. E. is the Saphronia from the 1870 census. And it looks like that after 1860 the W Cecil died, and Rachel moved to Clinton Co., and was living near Surelda, but not sure why, yet. Does this sound familiar to anyone at all.
Dear Ryan, Moses CHEEK was first cousin to my wife's grandfather, Ira R. CHEEK, who was born 9 Jan 1883 in Bowling Green, KY. Moses' parents were A. B. (Alexander) CHEEK (born about 1849, NC) and Emarine TUGGLE. I have an image of their marriage bond, dated 6 Dec 1871. Alexander and Emarine apparently had one other child that died young. My wife's line (James M CHEEK and Elizabeth Jane SMITH) migrated west, eventually to OK, after Alexander Cheek's parents (Mebane CHEEK and Candace ALLEN) died. James and Alexander's sister, Charity R. CHEEK, married Thomas W. SHELLEY and also migrated. They settled around Springfield, MO. Alexander CHEEK stayed in KY and Moses was his only surviving child as far as I know. I know of no children for Moses and Mindy. I have an image of their marriage bond as well, dated 24 Dec 1897. I'd love to see a photo of Moses. Are you related to him or was he a friend or in-law of the family?
