Pittman, d/o Micajah C. Pittman and Isabella Shelley (d/o Peter Shelley and Jane Shy). Haved you yet discovered this Nancy's maiden name? Three of my Nancy's seven Pittman siblings were: John Anderson, Margaret E. and William M. and three of Nancy Cooksey's children were John A, Margaret H. and William A.. This may simply be coincidence but I'm hoping, just the same, that my hunch is correct. John Thomas' father was witness on the will of Peter Shelly and was his neighbor in 1860 and 1870. The widow Isabella Pittman in 1870 was also a neighbor. All her children except Nancy were still in the household,. John T and his fairly new bride, Nancy J., and young son were living with John's parents.

    1. RE: [KYCLINTO] Clinton Co. HUNTERs
    2. Rex Bertram
    3. According to "Early Times in Clinton County, Vol. 1" by Jack Ferguson, Lewis Parker HUNTER and Matilda HOPKINS had Thomas (15 Jul. 1878), and Albert (1800). Lewis's second wife was E. A. HUDSON, and they had no children. So.... Your July 1878 birthdate matches that of Lewis Parker HUNTER's son. Maybe Lewis and Matilda divorced. Maybe she wasn't a widow. I frequently see divorced women listed as widows in the census. Many of them felt it was better to say they were a widow, than to be divorced. I, for one, think you should follow your own lead here. Looks like you may be onto something. I also consider myself an "authority" on a couple of my own lines (particulary the BRANHAM's of Clinton Co., in which I have lately corrected, with proof, much of the BRANHAM line from there). However, even though I may consider myself an "authority" on that family; it certainly does not mean that I can't have mistakes somewhere in my genealogy. There is no single person without mistakes in their family tree. Follow your instincts, and research Lewis Parker HUNTER further. The Month and year of Thomas's birth matches with that of Lewis's son. Just my opinion. Not looking for any conflicts or arguments on the list. Rex W. Bertram 132 S. HUNTERs Hello Hunter researchers, While the Hunter thread is alive, I'll take a stab with my Hunters. My great-grandfather was Thomas J. Hunter, born 1876 in Kentucky, d. 1903 in Collin Co., TX. These dates are from his tombstone in Coffman Cemetery near Anna, TX. In 1900, my Thomas Hunter was enumerated in Collin Co., TX as a son of Matilday Hunter, widow, age unknown. Thomas was listed as born July 1878. Another son was named Joe Louis, born Mar 1882. All were born in KY. I haven't been able to locate Matilday nor Joe Louis after 1900. Going back to 1880, the only Thomas J. I can find within a 2-3 years birth date is the son of Lewis Parker Hunter and Matilda Hopkins of Clinton Co. Their son was born in 1878 according to the census. They also had son, Albert, born 1880. Some years ago, a Hunter researcher told me he was "an authority" on the Hunters and that these two Matildas are not the same person. He said that Lewis Parker remarried after Matilda's death to E. A. Hudson. I've checked for probate in Clinton Co. but didn't find either listed in the records. I'm certainly not a Hunter authority and I may wind up with egg on my face, but I STILL believe that Lewis Parker and Matilda Hunter of Clinton Co. may be my line and that the son of William and Martha (Ellis) Hunter was the Lewis Parker who married E. A. Hudson. Unfortunately, Thomas didn't make it into the probate records nor does he have a death certificate to work with. I also have a picture that has written on the back "Maude Hunter mama's old maid aunt". 'Mama' was my grandmother, Grace Hunter Henson, the only descendant of Thomas J. Hunter and Nancy Anna Minton. Knowing my aunt who wrote on the picture, I am keeping an open mind about the first name and possibly the relationship. 3. Yes, that Wm Hunter is my 4th great-grandfather. I along with Eva Conner provided most of the Hunter information for the first "Early Times in Clinton County" by Jack Ferguson. After it was published; Eva and I discovered that some of the information we had provided for the book was incorrect. See below: Eva Conner of Albany, KY. discovered the marriage record for William Hunter II and Excony while researching her Murphy - Davis line on a trip to Henry Co., VA. in 1990. She made a photocopy of the record as follows: Va. - Henry Co. Minister Returns A list of Marriages Solemnized by Joseph Anthony Jan 10, 1790 -1792 "William Hunter & Exiona Turner January 27, 1792" She and other Hunter researchers agreed that this seems to prove that William probably only had one wife and that was Exiona/Excony Turner. Would you care to exchange information on this Hunter family? She attended Campbellsville College along with her husband, Willard. She graduated from Western Kentucky State College with a BS is 1955 and an MA in 1967. She, like many of the teachers of that time period, attended College on Saturdays and during the week at night. She first taught in a one room school in the Clinton County School System, taught fifth grade in Albany, and taught History and Social Studies at Clinton County High School. She was the Supervising Teacher in the Clinton County School System prior to retirement in 1977. She professed faith in Christ at an early age. She was very active in the Albany Younger Women's Club, Albany Women's Club and served as President. She was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. After retirement she spent many years working on genealogy of the Burchett, Conner, York and many other families in Clinton County. She traveled all over the United States doing her research and was a source of information for many families in Clinton County and from people from throught the country. She was very active in the Clinton County Historical Society and helped produce and research many books of historical and genealogical significance. She compiled the Lewis Armstrong York Family History book, she and Luther C. Conner, Jr. compiled a history of the Lawrence Conner of Dublin, Ireland, she compiled the 1910 Census of Clinton County Kentucky, Abstract and Index with Marilyn Neathery McCluen, and helped reconstruct the Clinton County 1890 Census. She also helped do the research on Frederick (Old Fed) Grider and his twenty two children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Conner, Father, Luther E. It has led me to hope that I might find a BURCHETT researcher or descendant (or a STINSON one) to help me. My husband's great-aunt was Josephine "Josie" STINSON (1873-1955), daughter of Lavina (RIGNEY) and William Henry Harrison STINSON. She married Joseph L. BURCHETT (1873-1930) in Clinton Co., KY in 1893. They are buried there in the Albany Cemetery. I am looking for information about Josephine (STINSON) and Joseph BURCHETT, and possibly a picture. Will be glad to share what I have with anyone interested. Sincerely, Anna Bertram abertram@heartoftn.net phone 615-765-5357

    3. Eva: I met Eva Conner once! She knew my family well as Eva was a cousin on the Burchett side. My 3rd great grandmother was a Burchett, sister ot John Calvin Burchett. I am planning a trip to Albany and in that planning was to see her again. Unfortunately that won't happen. She was one of the few people that knew the histories of many down there. I hope someone besides me that knows a lot about the people down there will carry on with the tradition. My condolances to her family. 3. Eva was also a great help to me in my research on the Wm Hunter family. I visited in her home and she came to see me in Sherman, Texas. She was a great lady that took her research very seriously and was very willing to share with anyone who asked. So would someone put her obit on the Clinton Co. site that all who are interested might have access to it.
