    1. WWI draft registration records
    2. Tom Johnson
    3. I received the following from a subscriber on the Weakley County, TN list, and thought I would share it with the folks on this list. I checked it out and found my dad and a number of uncles along with some great information in these WWI draft records. There's only 5 more days of free access. Check it out and Happy Hunting. Tom Johnson, Oklahoma City, OK --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ancestry has opened up its World War 1 Draft Registration records for visitors of Access Genealogy for free. (Excluding Iowa, Louisiana, New Jersey, Kansas, Minnesota, Oregon, Kentucky, Missouri & Puerto Rico) This will cover a 14 day period between July 4 - July 17 2005. The only thing required to view the records is an email address and your name. No credit card required! This is not a 14 day trial of all of their material. It is strictly limited to their World War 1 Draft Registration images. "In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men living in the United States completed a World War I draft registration card. These registration cards represent approximately 98% of the men under the age of 46. The total U.S. population in 1917-1918 was about 100 million individuals. In other words, close to 25% of the total population is represented in these records. "The WWI draft registration cards database can be an extremely useful resource because it covers a significant portion of the U.S. male population in the early twentieth-century. If you had family in the United States during WWI, you are likely to find at least one relative's information within this large collection. In addition, these cards contain more than just names and dates; they contain significant genealogical information such as birthplace, citizenship status, and information on the individual's nearest relative." In general, the registration cards included the following information Full name Home address Date and place of birth Age, race, and country of citizenship Occupation and employer Physical description (hair and eye color, height, disabilities) Additional information such as address of nearest relative, dependent relatives, marital status, father's birthplace, or previous exemption from service Signature." http://www.accessgenealogy.com/military/ww1/draft.htm http://www.accessgenealogy.com/

    3. Don, Good to see you on the Clinton Co., KY list! It's been a long time. It's pretty quiet most of the time. I believe Sarah BROWN, wife or mistress of James Gray BREWSTER, Jr., died by 1855 but can't prove it. I have it that James Gray BREWSTER, Jr., then married Nancy Green SHELTON. Green may have been her middle name or a married name from a previous marriage; I'm not sure which. Have you been in touch with Wilma Crabtree Gibson? She knows a lot about the BREWSTERS and BROWNS. Wonder if anyone else on this list has information to add? Dear Jim, The documented origins I have for Candace ALLEN are the North Carolina marriage bond and a MO death certificate for one of her children (Charity CHEEK SHELLEY). Her name appears in both as Candace ALLEN. I have no documentation at this point for her parentage, only the theory that her parents were Drury ALLEN and Rebecca CHAMPION. Your information helped stimulate formulation of that theory. I had known there were quite a few CHEEKs in Arkansas, but was unclear as to whether any of them traced from NC through KY. By the way, it is possible to establish a genetic link with the NC CHEEK families. See www.moonzstuff.com Keep in touch, Kevin in MO

They moved to Missouri and when Mary died in 1896, Thomas brought Eller May with him to Clinton County. I would like to know what happened to this little girl. I have learned some about George W. Gibson but he had a brother named James that I am interested in. He and my great great grand mother Rebecca Brewster never married but had seven children. I know only his name and would like to learn more about him. Rebecca's brother James Gray Brewster Jr. married (maybe) a Sarah Brown and had one son that I know about. Would like to learn more about these two. Rebecca and James were in Fentress county most of the time. Rebecca was known in Wayne county in the 1880 census. Thanks for any help, Don
