I am not sure of the children. My interest was to find the cemetery and copy down the data for a cemetery book. I did a GPS reading on the site also. There is an old Travis Cemetery located just a few feet inside Clinton County, Kentucky. It is very near the Fentress County land which became Pickett County. Gary D. No haven't started that am waiting for Mo to get all the death certificates on line which should be finished in Oct of this year as I am one of the volunteers working on transcribling them. That will make it much easier to find him. My ggrandfather is their eldest son. I have his death notice which does not mention his parents at all. Had not thought of that so thank you for the hint on where to look. I came across this little bit of additional info. Hope it helps. Nel from EARLY TIMES IN CLINTON COUNTY, Vol. 1, Rev, Ed., by Jack Ferguson page 420 Alexander Hayes (footnote) 23 "The name of this individual is variously spelled "Hayes" and "Hays". A son of Nicholas (ca 1730 - 1803) and Alse (Hunter) Hayes (ca 1730), he was born in Virginia around 1769. He came to Clinton County fairly early; he had 200 acres surveyed on Spring Creek on June 27, 1799. His wife was Elizabeth Travis, born in Maryland in 1779, who was a sister of the Hannah Travis, born in Georgia in 1786, who married Soloman Long. Their children were: Thomas; Lewis; James; Nancy (1802) who married Abner Wright; Mahala (Carson); Matilda (Smith); Malinda (Sandusky); Sarah (Westrope); and Emmaline who married James Beaty. Both Alexander Hayes and his wife died the same day, December 27, 1863. He died first and she died later that night."

A friend found a Reuben in Wayne county that married his second wife there but the dates were off totally much to early but this one seems to fit my Reuben since he was born in 1831 and this Reuben is 30 in 1860 and Louisa E could be Elizabeth. Reuben's son Samuel ( my ggrandfather wasn't born until 1868. Not sure when his first wife, Sarah Warriner died. Will keep on checking and maybe I will find Louisa E. one of these days. Joyce

Nel, I don't know how familiar you are with the geography of Overton, Fentress and Pickett Counties in TN, but your reference to Thomas Travis dying 5 Jun 1837 Travisville, Overton Co TN brings me to ask the question as to whether the correct county would be Fentress Co, since Travisville was located in Fentress Co until 1879 when Pickett Co was formed. Prior to 1823, the entire area was known as Overton County, so Thomas Travis possible settled in the community when it was Overton Co, then Fentress was formed in 1823 and finally, Pickett Co was formed in 1879. Travisville is supposedly named for Thomas Travis, a RW soldier and early settler in the area. He was said to have come to Travisville from Overton Co, so the confusion is easily understandable. I have an article about the Travisville Community, its beginnings, the school and church and some of the early settlers, if you would like a copy. I gathered this information as part of a display for the old 1860 Fentress County District 7 that I did for the Fentress County Historical Society last April. Of course Thomas Travis had already died before the community that lies on both sides of Caney Creek was named for him abt 1849. He did have some descendants living there however. It is believed that Thomas Travis and others of his family are buried in the Travisville Cemetery. William Travis is credited with beginning the Travisville School prior to the Civil War. Hi Tom and Jim, I don't know for sure about the family of Elizabeth Travis, but this might be a clue for you to follow. My Travis connection is Catherine Travis born 1779 in Baltimore Co., MD. She married Alexander Beaty in Dec 1801 in Sullivan Co., TN and they settled in Clinton Co., KY. They are the parents of James Beaty b. 1810 who married Emaline Hays b. 1821. I have not been too successful documenting Catharine's ancestors, but I'm pretty sure her father is Thomas Travis who died 5 Jun 1837 in Travisville, Overton Co., TN. I know she had a brother William born abt 1783 who died in 1860 in Fentress Co., but suspect there are other siblings. The Revolutionary War Pension application that Thomas Travis submitted in 1833 when he was 96 is a little confusing, but it gives the following info: -- He was born and raised in Baltimore Co., MD. -- after the RevWar, he continued to live there "don't recollect precisely how long and then moved to Wiks County South Carolina some few years [I think this must be Wilkes Co., GA which is very near the SC border] -- He then moved to Washington County Georgia and stayed there ten years [I think this is Washington Co., VA -- Catharine was married at the Beatys farm in a part of Sullivan Co., TN that was thought to be part of Washington Co., VA until the state line was surveyed.] -- He then moved to Green County, TN and lived there about four years. [I think he would have been here about 1799 when your Elizabeth was married there.] -- he then moved to Overton Co., TN to the part that in 1823 became Fentress Co., and in 1833 he had lived there "upward of thirty years" I hope this helps in your research. I would like to share info on these families with you. Nel Rocklein Newnan, GA

Alexander was born in 1769 according to his tombstone. Elizabeth was born in 1779 according to hers. Yes, they both died on December 27, 1863. Any idea as to why the same date.
