Dear Edith: Thank you for writing to me. I would love to find out if this is my family. Maybe you are my cousin! If any of this looks familiar to you or your cousin I would love to know. My gfather Richard Lewis Gilbert left Kentucky at a young age because his parents both died so he never shared much about them. He became a prize fighter (Fighting Dick Gilbert) and was quite famous in his day. He then worked for the movies in Los Angeles and is in many of the “Our Gang” - Little Rascels movies. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I am 54 and have 4 children from 14 to 27 years old. All I have about my ggmother is a picture of her in her casket and the name Sarah Elizabeth Tankersley Gilbert is written on the back. She died when my grandfather Richard Lewis Gilbert was very young. I found them on the 1880 census for Brush Creek, Knox County Kentucky. This is before my gfather and his sister Opal were born. Do you think this Sarah is your ggrandmothers sister Sarah E. Tankersley? Her age seems to be correct. I also found a marriage listing for Knox County Kentucky in 1864 but Tankersley is misspelled (Tankeshley) I have tried to find out if that is just an error when it was copied as the spelling doesn’t make sense and the back of her picture says Tankersley. This is my grandfather’s family. Have you ever heard any of these names? 1880 Census Brush Creek Knox Kentucky William H. (Bill) Gilbert and Sarah Gilbert C
