RESPONSE: Leta, You are so correct about spellings. I've seen people get locked into the notion that someone is not their relative because the spelling is not exactly correct. Reality is that there could be 4 or 5 or even more sometimes of one spelling of a name. As for your DUCK family, I recall I did see a John DUK in Burke Co., NC as of 1790 records who could perhaps be connected to your Nathan. Again, I am not related to your family so far as I know. Joyce Taylor Collins La Palma, CA Message text written by INTERNET:KYCLAY-L@rootsweb.com >Joyce Thank you so much for you're help regarding Nathan Duck, I am in contact with Capt. Nicol regarding the Bales family and hope we can tie up some loose ends in the Duck family. On a side note, I have a copy of the marriage application for William Settle and Elizabeth Mariah Duck as well as the permission letter signed by her father Nathan. For your own records please note the spelling of her middle name, even my family surname has come out 3 different ways for the same person on census records. Again a big thank you Leta <
