He is my grt.grt grandfather, family tradition says he was born in England but the 1860 census says N.C. He is shown in household #785 with 25 acres, living alone. Age 78. I also found him owing the estate Davis Clark $20.00 in 1842. he had 2 daughters (one was my grt grandmother) and maybe one son with the same name (this Nathan served in the civil war and was wounded in the leg) His grandson said he was buried on "Red Bird" in Clay Co. and that is a very ambiguous location to say the least. If anyone can offer me additional information I would be most grateful. Leta in Wa state <
Joyce Thank you so much for you're help regarding Nathan Duck, I am in contact with Capt. Nicol regarding the Bales family and hope we can tie up some loose ends in the Duck family. On a side note, I have a copy of the marriage application for William Settle and Elizabeth Mariah Duck as well as the permission letter signed by her father Nathan. For your own records please note the spelling of her middle name, even my family surname has come out 3 different ways for the same person on census records. Again a big thank you Leta -----Original Message----- From: Joyce Collins [mailto:joycecollins@compuserve.com] Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2003 9:53 AM To: KYCLAY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYCLAY] Duck RESPONSE: On the 1850 Clay Co., there is a William DUCK as follows: Dwelling 766 CORAM, 35, b.
