Betty & Jasper: The subject is taking longer than anticipated but here is part 2. The subjects family members lived at a time during the middle to late 1800's in Bell [Josh Bell]; CLAY, Jackson, Laurel, Knox and Pendleton counties. John C. Robbins and Jonathan C. Robbins were 1st cousins. This is written to clarify misinformation to postings at http:wc.rootsweb.com, which gives forth an opinion that John C. Robbins is Jonathan C. Robbins. THIS IS NOT THE CASE. On Tuesday, 7 August 2007, I put forth census data pertaining to John C. Robbins which ESTABLISHED that he was the person that married Judith/Juda Margaret Barnet/Barnett. Also that he was born about 1844 in what is now Bell County but at the time it could have been Knox County and this part became part of Josh Bell County and then later Bell County. It was around Middlesboro and probably a little northwest. His parents were Michael or Wim. M. [as enumerated in 1860 Harlan Co. census] Robbins and Elizabeth Crawford. All census records 1850, 1860 and 1870 brings forth the truth in this. Now this person does not know if he personally went by the name of Jonathan BUT his census records DO NOT AFFIRM THIS. THE REAL AND ONLY Jonathan C. Robbins born around 1835/36 is what part 2 is all about. The CORRECT Jonathan C. Robbins is the son of Lemuel Robbins and Kesiah/Keziah Robbins. Depending upon the cernsus enumerations, one could conclude that he was born 1835 or 1836 and in North Carolina. However his only known son Elias or Elisha Robbins has it as Kentucky but I believe one should doubt this but then again I trust the censuses of 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 as being correct and these are the ones that enumerated Jonathan C. Robbins. His census enumerations are as follows and the years 1840, 1850 and 1860, Jonathan C. Robbins was in his father & mother's household. 1840 Harlan Co. census, page 3 & 8th family from bottom of page 3 [this part became Josh Bell after 1860.] 1 Male 30-40 Lemuel, Robbins 1 Female 30-40 Kisiah or Kiziah 1 Male 15-20 [??brother??] 1 Female 10-15 Nancy 1 Male 5-10 JONATHAN C. 1 Female 5-10 Elizabeth 1 Nake 0-5 John Alexander [he IS NOT Jonathan Alexander but was Alexander in censuses later on] 1850 Harlan Co. ROBBINS. Jonathan C. Robbins has been also been enumerated in the above censuses, excluding the 1870 of which I will indicate after mention the below Civil War data. During the Civil War, this Jonathan C. Robbins son of Lemuel & Kesiah/Keziah Robbins was the one who enlisted for the UNION cause in 1863 and was discharged in 1864. He served as a private in Company G in the Kentuckyk 49th Infantry and Kentuckky 49th Regiment. This information is shown on film # M386, Roll 2. This is also mentioned on ancestry.com. However for those that are not subscribers to ancestry.com, I would suggest logging onto the Jackson Co. KY GenWeb site as you can get free use of ancestry material when selecting the person your searching for. The 1890 Kentucky Censusd Indes of Civil War Veterrans or Their Widows shows the following regarding Jonathan C. Robbins: Residence district & enumeration 6/76 in Green Mt., Laurel County. On the north side of Raccoon district is Greenmount and just west of Raccoon is Green Mountain. This area borders Jackson County. And his widow some children were enumerated in 1900 census in Raccoon. After JONATHAN C. ROBBINS participation in the Civil War he returned home. Whether he returned to then Harlan County which became Josh Bell & Bell or to Clay or Jackson County, as he had relatives in these counties is unknown. What is known is that he was enumerated in Jackson County in 1870 and 1880 and was married to a Emily McQueen, daughter of Thomas McQueen and Nancy. Thomas McQueen was a resident in Jackson County in 1860 therefore it is my opinion that he could have went to Jackson County but then who can say for sure. His first child was born about 1865/66. 1870 finds Jonathan C. Robbins enumerated in Sturgeon p-recinct #6, with post office at Gray Hawk, Kentucky. This being just below McKee, in the county of Jackson, which had just been put forth as a county in 1858, from portions of CLAY, Estill, LOaurel, Madison, Owsley & Rockcastle counties. 13 July 1870 Jackson Co., page 240-B, dwelling 148 & family # 146 Jonathan C. On page 224-A 1870 Jackson Co. is a Lemuel Robins, 22 years old, born in KY, with wife Rachel and a Metilda Robins 46 years old, born NC & others. 1880 Jackson county census probably finds Jonathan C. and Emily Bobbins, as moving slightly southwest of where they were in 1870. It is called Pond Creek precinct, by ancestry.com, and district 509 and enumerated in June 1880 and sheet #2, and on page 513-B. Pond Creek by my map appears to cross highway 30, which is a east & west road, and Pond Creek is just east of Annville which is on highway 30. Dwelling & Family # 11 Jonathan C. Robbins IS NOT Jonathan C. Robbins. Hopefully I will conclude or maybe have 2 more parts concerning the grandmother of Jonathan C. Robbins. Also his aunt Abigail Robbins Ball, and uncle Absalom Robbins. I hopefully with definitely have them sometime week of 13 August. Betty and Jasper I do hope that this is helpful to you and I treasure your input too and will expand on the only known son of Jonathan C. Robbins, Elias/ELISHA Robbins in the next probably 2 parts. This will also enlighten those regarding Emily and some of the children too. You all have a great week coming up.
