James, Well, I'm just happy to know that you're going to be open three days a week. Last year, when I was researching my book "Blame it on Salt" it was open for just a few hours on Fridays, and on a hit or miss basis at that. Anyway, congratulations on finding a home. I plan to make use of it. Please let me know if I can be of some help. I think the historical society is one of the county's treasures, and a much under appreciated one at that. I'm surprised at the treatment you received at the B school. Every time I heard any council member or members of the 200th Anniversary Committee talk about the B school it was in the context that it was to be used for the historical society. Your news surprises me very much. I intend to look into it but, like you, I doubt anything will come of it. What is to happen with all the priceless documents you have? Will those be housed at the library, too? If so, that might be a better place than the old school building. I've thought a lot about how easy and fast a fire at that building could wipe out a large chunk of the county's history. I plan to donate a copy of "Blame it . . ." to the Society. It's selling like crazy and I have to keep reordering them. I don't have a single copy at the moment but will have for the book signing at the library on Aug. 30. By the way, I helped Jess Wilson publish a new edition of "When They Hanged the Fiddler," and Jess will be there for the book signing, too. Try to stop by. I have a slew of research papers I will eventually donate to the Society. My new project is a one hour documentary on historic old Clay County cemeteries and the old pioneers buried in them, a few born in the mid to late 1700s. I've already completed significant filming at a number of them, and have several people lined up to do "talking head" interviews, several from out of state. I wish I could find more knowledgeable local people. I've already filmed some, including Jess Wilson. Maybe you'd like to do an interview on one or two of the old settlers. Let me know. --Charles House On Aug 22, 2007, at 3:49 PM, jwelch@kih.net wrote: > the clay co. his. society has moved to the 2nd floor of the clay co > public library.
