    1. Re: [KYCLAY] we have moved
    2. My roots to Clay County are DEEP ... I am a ... Bowling, House, Hammons, Martin, Gray, Day, Broughton, Cox, Benge, Weaver, Proffitt ... it goes on (did I leave any of my lines out?). I must say that last summer my cousins & I spent time at the Historical Society (in the old jail) -- the lady who met us was most gracious and took time out of her schedule (her day off) to allow us the opportunity to do research. The EMS people downstairs were equally as nice to us, as was Mr. Jesse Wilson (with whom we spent a wonderful day -- thanks again Jesse). While the working conditions at the Society were lacking, the spirit was high. Their Internet services had been suspended, their copy machine was almost inoperative, yet the lady was more than pleasant, helpful and seemed genuinely pleased that we were there (all that without a/c & it WAS HOT). Clay County is rich in history to many -- not just the present residents. The Historical Society was so very excited to be moving to "better facilities"; now, to learn that they have been displaced is heart-sickening. Most counties take pride in providing such an important group of volunteers with comfortable working conditions and modern equipment. I am proud of my rich heritage. I am always thrilled, as a researcher, to learn more about my past. Without these kinds of resources, much of our questions will go unanswered. Yes, we have Rootsweb, we have other genealogy resources to refer to ... still, to let such a valuable society suffer and disappear is unthinkable. While we all donate to the Society, surely the Board of County Commissioners can find it in their budget to provide adequate funding as well. Let us never forget from whence we came. Shirley Gray

    3. My roots in Clay County go DEEP as well. Some of my lines are White, Gibson (which should be Hignite), Daniel, Gay, Allen, Baker. From what I've learned so far, I consider myself lucky to be sane. :) ----- Original Message ----- From: <3ronandshirley@earthlink.net> To: <kyclay@rootsweb.com> Cc: "Adair, Ann" <aadair@hughes.net>; "Candace Cranford Gray" <graywind@fairpoint.net>; "Tankersley,Ken" <CaveTank@aol.com>; "Wilson, Jesse" <jswlsn@prtcnet.org>; "Chesnut, Donald" <drches01@pop.uky.edu> Sent: Wednesday, August 22, 2007 6:16 PM Subject: Re: [KYCLAY] we have moved > My roots to Clay County are DEEP ...
