There is a comment from the J.J.D.D. that I would like to pass on at this time.found on pg 2181. Mrs._____Caudill of Benge, Kentucky Says "I am the daughter of Rev.Taylor Gilbert. I have heard Mrs Hopper,My father's aunt, say that my great grandfather Rev. John Gilbert, was born out of wedlock. His father was a wealthy man named_____Gilbert. His mother begged him to marry her,but he would not and she disappeared. It was Not known what became of her,but it was supposed she drowned herself in the Atlantic Ocean or "The Sea" as she called it. His father raised him and he came to Kentucky at an early day. Comment by Dale: Mrs Caudill must be Mittie who md Emory Caudill. They were living next to Taylor Gilbert in the 1900 census of Clay County Dist.29 sheet no.20 pg B. Mrs Hopper would be Nancy Gilbert Hopper who married Blackgrove B.Hopper 26 Sep 1838 Mg records of Clay Co.,Ky 1801-1852 Call no.976.9A1 no 30 FHCSLC.
