    3. Sharon, You must be real busy answering all these queries. I appreciate what you do. Some questions that I have and maybe some suggestions on where to do some research if not already done on the Gilbert line. First af all Pardon my typing. I never have had typing lessons and what I have learned I have learned on my own and there may be mistakes. Question # 1. Why is The Gilbert lines in the census always listing their birth as North Carolina. Question # 2 Where do those who have their being born in Ireland or Scotland come from? I have searched the immigration records 1600-s-1800-s Immigrants to the New World Family Tree Maker and published from the Genealogical Publishing Company Inc. and the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1538-1940 and I've found nothing of the nature that they immigated..Here is something from Mark Parmley Morgan <mpmorgan @ Zeus.chapell.com>. "Middle name "Bige" and born 1 Mar 1757 were obtained from http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com on 13 Oct 2001.(Research):See article's in file: Ky Register. Vol.III,no.4,Richmond, Ky.,Friday, April 17, 1868; "Felix, came from Scotland...", History of Clay Co.,Ky 1767 -1976,by Mr. & Mrs. Kelly Morgan, call no. 976.902/C619mor,Ky History Center. Frankfort, Ky. : Pioneer Families of Clay Co.,Ky 1769 - 1996, Kelly and Hazel Morgan,1970,Call no. 979.902/C619m. See copy of booklet by J.M.Gilbert,Pineville,Ky,Dec.20 1949. This booklet is located in the Gilbert family files of the Ky. History Center, Frankfort, Ky." This is as recorded on the Ancestry World Tree Project. I hope I have quoted it correctly. I Have not seen this source and hoped that perhaps you had and could shed some light on it. Are there any records in the state that shows John as being elected and serving for the years 1832-1837? Sharon Gallagher Smith Shaffer <sharinlpn1@ juno.com> Says that John "Bige"Gilbert was born 1 Mar 1757 in Owsley Co.,Ky and died 5 Mar 1868 in Clay Co.,Ky. He was the son of Felix. He married Mary "Mollie"Bowling 11 Sep 1804 in Knox Co. ,Ky, daughter of James Bowling Sr. and Mary Sarah "Sallie" Blevins. She was born 1779 in North Carolina and died 1846 in Clay Co.,Ky." There was a Felix living inVirginia and North Carolina ,But I have not been able to link John anf Felix to him. As I understand it he was one who was a Tory and latter redeemed himself by selling and helping Washington's troops.. Are there any records searched in the early Anderson County Tennessee Area . Anderson County was formed in 1801 and the parent county was Knox, Grainger and Hawkins Counties were formed 1796 and 1786 respectively .Tennessee became a state in 1706 and Washington Co. Tennessee was formed in1777. As I understand this these counties were along the Cumberland Gap road to the West. How Accurate is the Bowling Memoirs? I have a Zeroxed copy . I've had it for some time and it is getting faint and hard to read. I guess that will be all for now. I'l be happy to work with you inasmuch as possible on these lines. Have a great day! I have a note on the marriage date that gives an alternate date of marriage as July 24, 1851, Owsley Co, KY. That fits in more with your theory and the children. (And eliminates the same day and month for marriage and death). I also have a notation that Eli died while fighting for the Union in the Civil War -- which may also be in error if he died in 1869. I suppose he could have died of war injuries that long after the war was over. I wonder if Isabella applied for a pension? That would answer a lot of questions. As to the child born in 1874 -- could the child have been a grandchild she raised -- and there is always the possibility that Ibby had a child after she became a widow? > > The 1874 child may have provided his/her real parents on a marriage license application; or they may be on his/her death certificate. > > I have never done any research in Owsley County, but Eli and Ibby's parents might be on consent slips for their license; there are also clues if there were bondsmen prior to the marriage. > > I wish you the best of luck -- the Bowlings are a tough line to work with (I have 2 Bowling lines). > > Sharon > ---------------------------------------- > > > To review the Welcome message and find useful links for Clay County research, please visit http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~beckyjs3/clayco.html.
