You can do a rubbing of the headstone - put a piece of white paper on the headstone and take a pencil and rub it over the paper - the engravings will appear on the paper and then you can read the info. Also, I have heard of people using a piece of chalk - just rub it on the headstone. It washes right off with the rain. Good luck. I am looking for someone who e-mailed me who is doing Cemeteries, I am so sorry I forgot your name, but I need help. There is a Cemetery in Mercer County West Va., where I believe my granddad was buried, but someone used a white wash I guess to try to keep the old head stones in shape, and now you can not read the name, if the guy who e-mailed me, would please e-mail me, it would mean so much, I need to know if anything can be done to clean the headstones off. Thanks Myrtle
I hope I do not bore you but my Husband's GGGrandmother's name was Sarah (Sally) Elizabeth Hurst. was born in Claiborne Co. Tennessee. I have also seen this spelled as Hunt. I haven't got my Books in front of me at this moment but I think Sarah Hurst was borned in 1881. She married Hiram Harrisen Smith and they lived in Clay County, Ky. Her Daughter Samantha Smith Wages married Highy Wages and they also lived in Clay County, Ky. They moved to Louisiana and are buried at Eros, Louisiana Jasckson Parish. I wonder if this Sally Hunt could be Sarah Wages Mother. Any information would be appreciated. This info may not be readily available so I'll include it here. Another child of John & Massie Hacker was Granville Hacker. From the Hunt Family Bible: Granville Hacker b. about March 1822 married Sally Hunt May 23, 1841 in Clay Co., KY Sally or Sarah Hunt was born Dec. 13, 1822 in Tennessee. She died Nov. 22, 1846. Children were: 1. Claibourn Hacker b. March 15, 1842. He apparently died young - no further information 2. Levi Hacker born April 5, 1844. Granville Hacker has a son listed with him in the census, 3. Hogan Hacker. Based on Granville's 2nd marriage, this would also have been a child of Sally Hunt so he would have been born before Nov. 22, 1846 when Sally died. Does anyone know who this is?? Thanks , Martha Jo Marcum Carr Descendants of Berry Marcum Generation No. 1 1. BERRY1 MARCUM He married SARAH FOSTER 17 Jan 1831 in Clay Co, Kentucky.
John A B Webb & Louisa C. Burgess were married on 5-4-1896 in Powell County. Louisa is the daughter of Samuel Burgess & Armina Combs. In 1900 census they are in Ohio County, Kentucky and 1910 in Powell County census. They had the following children Ethel 1898 Ellie 1899 Bessie 1903 Essie 1905 And I believe a boy Irvin Essie married Andrew West and Bessie married Hugh Craig and a man named Cook. She died in Indianapolis, IN I believe John & Louisa must have died between 1910 and 1920 as I find two of the girls with other families and one says ward. Does anyone have information on this family. Would love to hear from you. JoAnn, Indianapolis
James, Do you need any information on John "Long" Hacker b.1842 to Claiborne and Action Hacker, married Elizabeth Susan Robinson, daughter of James and Martha Benge Robertson/Robinson? James and Martha is my line. Sharon Robinson Peel Grandview, TX

Shade was aged 94 years at his death and Rosa was aged 84 years at her death. Both passed in Cincinnati Ohio. Elizabeth Hacker died at age 21 years. She had a hole in her heart and died a few days after giving birth to Earl Fox. I have a photo of Will hacker in his military uniform from WWI. due to the size of the Hacker family i have moved all the other familes to a vol 4. it will have about 25 families in it 200 pages a number are 2-3 pages and 7 are over 10 pages all but 5 families are printer ready. hope to get atleast 2or3 more done this week i had to add 6 more families to the list i told everyone about months ago the jessie cotton families is 27 pages so far and the Eagle is 10 pages.,brigman is 4 (done) caywood 2 (Black family done) Pennington 4 (Black family done)drake 2 (Black family done) anyone that has any pictures on these new families ,please contact me. i plan to get Hacker to the printer in dec and in the mail in jan. if sell are good to recover my printing cost i will be taking vol 4 to the printer in jan or feb. only 45 copies will be for sell (5 other to be donated) i felt it would be best to break it into 2 book of 200 pages insteadt of a 350 page book.(that before i added the 6 other families) i hope that way people can enjoy looking at all the smaller familes that help clay county family tree . and the hacker can enjoy a book just on them . james any question jwelch@kih.net
Trying to find any information on my Great Great Grandfather John McDaniel. According to records, John Married Sept. 17, 1866 to Mosey Alabama Phipps in Clay County. Not sure if this is a typo on his spouses name or not. The only child I have so far for them is my Great Grandfather Ned McDaniel. According to the copy of Ned's death certificate that I have, it list his Mothers name as Mazie Phipps. My Grandfather Charles McDaniel was the informant on this certifcate. I would love to know if John and his wife had any other children besides Ned. Marvin Gregory
my rought type draft on the hacker was 60 pages. at 120 i starting moving familes to a vol 4 i am now at 180 type pages and still counting. i decided to made vol3 only on the Hacker family with around 200 pages. but will only have to sell 45 copies(5other copy are to be donated) i hope to keep price around 20.00 but that was based on 100 copies. so i will have to wait to see what the final price will be.i was able to add things to this vol that i would had to leave out. i hope to make my final trip to frankfort next week to look up about 30 death cert. i have found a number of young dead hacker children but no birth record to go along with them so on there death cert i will get parent names and birthdate also.also will look at some dead hacker that i can not place (possilbe born out of state)to get there parent names. still have typeing to do on from my last research trip.this should be done next week if nothing comes up. i had hope to have it done by now.i have family plans out of town (made over 7 months ago) in oct and nov (i will be gone a total of 4 week) i had hope to have this vol done before i started these trips. so the plan are to get it done in dec and to the printer.but not mail them to jan.(holidies is a bad time for thing to get lost in the mail.) i can still use pictures on the hacker any question james welch jwelch@kih.net
I joined the society this summer when I visited the office. I must say, we were on a mission to do research and one of your members was kind enough to come in on her day off to let us have access. We had a wonderful time ... not only doing our research, but we also found relatives downstairs with the EMS group. Can't thank you enough for being so gracious. Shirley Gray

Maybe some of you know this, but this was posted on another site I belong to: Some digitized book are available free, online: (mostly older books that are no longer copyrighted) Go to http://books.google.com Select/click "Full view books" and Type in: memoirs Lenawee (or whatever book or name you are searching for) (Note: If you don't click "full view" as a search requirement, you may get books that show you just "snippets" of the text, not the whole thing.) Click highlighted results to see full book. The entire book can also be saved as your own pdf file. If you belong to ancestry.com, they also have books and photos now! One book I found by accident is by Kozee "Early Families of Eastern Kentucky.."
