I'm so sorry. When I saw "Charles House," I thought that was the publisher was Charles House, rather like "Random House." It didn't dawn on me that House was a surname. I'm embarrassed. Thanks for your kind reply. The author is Charles House. I have written four books, which may be accessed at www.pubthis.com. It is not a collection. It is a 312-page history of the county told through the stories of several families who settled along Goose Creek around 1800 or a little before. The book is the result of eight years of historical and genealogical research. I suppose I didn't mention my name because I assumed anyone interested would go to the web site which gives more details and an excerpt from the book. It was my intention to write the most comprehensive history of the county ever attempted, and to do it through the lives of many of my family and others who's activities were so intertwined with the affairs of the county -- good and bad -- all along. In any case, thanks for your reply. --Charles House On May 17, 2007, at 4:24 PM, S R Newman wrote: > The name of the author is missing. When the wealthy and educated salt industry families, including the Whites and Garrards, Bates and Reids and others, interacted with the Scotch – Irish settlers who came in looking for little more than a piece of land and to be left alone, the mix led to a violent culture that kept the county in the national headlines for decades, and whose legacy is felt to this day. Fellow genealogists and anyone concerned with preserving our sacred cemeteries, The History Channel and Time Warner are sponsoring a 'Save Our History' grant award for which anyone can go online and cast their vote. Voting ends THIS FRIDAY April 27th, so time is short. We were fortunate that our restoration project was chosen as a finalist. The JCOGS is the only genealogy society or cemetery project to be chosen as one of the five finalists, so I truly hope that you will go to the Time Warner website and cast your vote for the James Cemetery project. If awarded this grant, we will use 100% of the grant to begin installing an antique-style aluminum alloy fence around the perimeter in order to help halt further desecration of this sacred and historic burial ground. You can read more about our James Cemetery project at the Time Warner 'Save Our History' voting website. Please unite with us as a group of genealogists concerned about the ever-increasing destruction of our cemeteries by VOTING for us at the website below. And note also that ANYONE with Internet access can VOTE so please forward this email to your genealogy circle of friends and ask THEM to vote too! Hi Marvin, my name is Dennis Wagers and I live in Richmond, Indiana. I have just returned from the library. My scanner is down or I would send you a copy of the obit. I could not find any details about the accident. In April of 1968, Richmond had a huge explosion in the downtown area that killed several people. Patty's accident was in the same week so it may not have gotten very good coverage. (I will try to keep looking.) For some reason, the obit never uses her name. Here is how it appears in the paper: Mr. And Mrs. William Glenn CAMDEN, Ohio - Services for Mrs. Glenn will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at R. C. Nein and Sons Funeral Home here with Rev. Bernard Hornsby officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park at Hamilton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Surviving Mrs. Glenn are a daughter, Juanita Marie; her mother, Mrs. August Harbaum of R. R. 1, Camden, Ohio; her father, Emmett McDaniel of Hamilton, Ohio; a brother, Carl McDaniel of Hamilton, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. Connie Goot and Miss Donna McDaniel, both of R. R. 1, Camden, Ohio; her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Edith Ogden of Hamilton, Ohio; two stepbrothers, Donald Gene Harbaum, and James Edward Harbaum, both of Hamilton, Ohio. Services for Mr. Glenn, who also was killed in an auto crash near Lynn, Ind., were Wednesday at the Henley and Sunquist Funeral Home at Farmington, Mich. (the date of the newspaper is April 10, 1968) You might want to do some research in Hamilton and/or Camden Ohio. Camden is about 20 minutes from Richmond, and Hamilton is almost an hour from here. Also, it sounds like the accident happened near Lynn, Indiana which is a very small town about 10 minutes north of here. I don't know if this will help, but there it is. If I can get my scanner working, I will send you a copy of what I have. Dennis Wagers ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Hi Donna! Thank you so very much for the offer! It would mean alot to my cousins and me as we are in a pretty intense genealogy project right now. Patty was our cousin and we finally found her grave just yesterday and now we would like to learn what happened exactly. Like I said before, all I have at this point is she died in April of 1968. Another cousin that lives in Hamilton Ohio is going to check her librarys collection for an obituary since Patty was buried there in Hamilton. If she can locate one, then I should be able to provide you with an exact date of the accident. I just figured the papers where the accident occured would have more info as far as the circumstances surrounding it so we would really appreciate any help you could offer. How often to you make this trip to Richmond to go to the library? Thanks again, Marvin Gregory Evansville, IN .............................At 09:23 AM 4/23/2007, you wrote: >Hi Marvin, >I live in a town right next door to Richmond IN. RESPONSE: This would appear to be the same persons for whom the marriage record was given earlier. If your family is of African American descent, then you will not be surprised at the following listings from the Fed. Census. However, if you are surprised, then it may be quite possible your people were either Melungeon or Native American. Anyone with darker skin colors than what were considered the norm, would be listed as either B or M. I am not really seeing either Jane WHITE or James PENNINGTON listed on the 1860. This would probably mean one of two things. Either they were slaves and sadly not listed individually because it was prior to the Civil War or they were simply not in Clay Co., KY. 1870 Clay Co. Fed.
