    2. JoAnn Rowe
    3. I have the Montgomery County marriage of Louisa "Eliza" Barnes and John Burgess. It says John 21 1st Marriage resident of Menifee Co born Clay Co. as were both parents. and Louisa C. Barnes 18 1st marriage resident of Montgomery Co. born Mont gomery County as were both parents. Surety Frank Crouch. to be married 23 Dec 1875 at residence of Nancy J. Barnes. My problem is Louisa's mothers maiden name. I have her father as John Barnes and mother as Nancy J. Edwards, but the death certificate for Louisa from Missouri says her mother was Nancy J. Tate. I was hoping someone might clear it up as to whether her mother was Edwards or Tate. Thanks. JoAnn

    3. Charles, Is your line the one that had Foster McDaniel & Laura. I have been trying to find out if Laure is still living-she was married to Gilbert (Mutt) Samples. Also, T.C. McDaniel was a brother (think those are the right initials. Wonder if you know the whereabouts of Foster's children, Alice Louise & Jamie. Also if T.C. is living. We were very close when I was a lot younger & I believe my dad was a cousin although distant. If this is your line we can talk more. 3. Peg, Thanks for your interest. Those families are not specifically a part of the book which is more of a history book of Clay County than genealogy. The book would be of interest to anyone interested in the history, and less interest for anyone seeking specific genealogical information. In doing research I noticed a lot of references to members of the Benge family in Rev. John Jay Dickey's famous diary during the years 1897 to 1899. And the Price family was connected to Gen. T. T. Garrard's family. --Charles On May 18, 2007, at 7:48 AM, pquante wrote: > > Charles, > I would love to know if the Price,Benge or Garland families are in > your book. 3. I descend from Thomas McDANIEL and Sarah "Sally" EVERAGE. Thomas is believed to be the son of Thomas McDANIEL and wife unknown. According to some Revolutionary War records that I have Thomas McDANIEL Sr. and George McDANIEL served in the Revolutionary War together. What I have not figured out is why Thomas Sr. left Clay County and went to Monroe County, Virginia (now West Virginia). According to Thomas Sr's Revolutionary record he had three children who were all grown and no wife. George remained in Southeastern Kentucky. 3. Marvin, The answer to your question is out there in the genealogical community. That's what makes all this so fantastic; it allows us to connect. If I don't discover something on Thomas I'm sure someone else will, sometime down the road. Let me know if you hear something. Meantime I'll go over the notes I have on the Clay County Court Order Book A, which was the first one, and see what I can find. I'm pretty sure there was a mention or two about one or two McDaniels. --Charles On May 17, 2007, at 7:52 PM, Marvin Gregory wrote: > Charles, > I dont know. 2. I have an interest in McDaniel - Charles McQuinn married Lucy McDaniel, daughter of George, in 1815, Clay County, KY. His mother Elizabeth/Betsy was in Clay by 1810 or earlier She was widow of Charles McQueen/McQuinn who died NC in 1796. Some records index her as McGuire, others as McGuin. My gg-grandfather Braxton McQuinn, together with Wiley Cope, were recommended as justices of the peace 1819, Clay County, KY. Charles and Lucy named their first son Wiley. Any relation? 2. Charles, Does your book mention Ezekial Smith? Evidently, he was one of the original Justices of Clay County right after its' formation? Thanks, Jeri ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Sorry about the oversight. The author is Charles House. I have written four books, which may be accessed at www.pubthis.com. It is not a collection. It is a 312-page history of the county told through the stories of several families who settled along Goose Creek around 1800 or a little before. The book is the result of eight years of historical and genealogical research. I suppose I didn't mention my name because I assumed anyone interested would go to the web site which gives more details and an excerpt from the book. It was my intention to write the most comprehensive history of the county ever attempted, and to do it through the lives of many of my family and others who's activities were so intertwined with the affairs of the county -- good and bad -- all along. In any case, thanks for your reply. --Charles House On May 17, 2007, at 4:24 PM, S R Newman wrote: > The name of the author is missing. 1. [KYCLAY] History/genealogy book on Clay County Kentucky
    2. Charles House
    3. For those interested in Clay County Kentucky history, there is a new book just published, “Blame it on Salt,” that explores how Clay became Kentucky’s most unique county from the time salt was discovered along Goose Creek in the late 1790s. When the wealthy and educated salt industry families, including the Whites and Garrards, Bates and Reids and others, interacted with the Scotch – Irish settlers who came in looking for little more than a piece of land and to be left alone, the mix led to a violent culture that kept the county in the national headlines for decades, and whose legacy is felt to this day. The story, a mix of history and genealogy, is told through the activities of several families whose ancestors were on hand at the beginning of the county in April, 1807. You may read about the book at www.pubthis.com. Or you may contact the author, Charles House, at house12@alltel.net.
