My name is Betty Wages from Corbin, Ky. I want to thank you for your Service Duty in the USMC. The Troops are very special to us. Did you ever know of Bert Combs? Our Governor in Kentucky in the early 60's I believe it was in the 60's if I am thinking right. That's been a long time ago. He sure was a good one. Just read your message. I am not related to the Bird's but I went to School in Corbin, Ky. with a Shirley Bird and Brother Jerry Bird. I do believe their Father's name was Reuben Bird. Shirley passed away just recently. She was married to a Roy Jenkin's. He died some time ago and then she married a Hall. Arlena: I don't believe my Wilson line is the same as yours, but I do recognize the Wilsons you mentioned in your email. I know the family of Leonard Wilson m. ?(don't have my records nearby) Wilson. She was from Clay County, and Leonard was from Bell County. Leonard and ? Wilson had children: Paul, Palestine Barnett (Pat), Jean, Sarah, Vearlene, and Fern. Do you know these cousins in Berea, KY? I will put in my two cents worth about the town of FELTY, Clay County, KY. Felty was a post office at close to the mount of Lower Teges Creek, Clay County, KY and was operated by the Felty family until around the late 40s or early 50s when it the post office was moved and operated by Ida (Byrd) Abner (My aunt on my mother's side) until the post office closed around the late 60s early 70s. Ida Abner ran a small general store along with the post office. Lower Teges ran into the KY river close to where Doc cabin was and Upper Teges ran into the KY river a little closer to Oneida or 3/4 to a mile away. Both of these being about 3 miles from Oneida and Oneida being about 17 miles from Manchester (county seat of Clay County). I left the area 1n 1952 and joined the USMC and have returned sporadically the past 50 plus years. Clyde was one heck of a person. Loved him to pieces. We were stationed in Germany when he died and I could not make it back to Kansas for his funeral. Bill my husband, was flown back by the Red Cross. We have very few pictures of Clyde. Except for his military picture taken probably about 1944 there are none prior to about 1953. After that there are maybe a half dozen snapshots. Would you be interested in the article printed in the Cincinnati paper or of a picture that is in the scrapbook that must be of Clyde's mother and family. Do you know who Hank was? I just reread the newspaper article and another puzzle piece fell into place. The article states that Clyde was at the home of his sister Mrs. Lillie Felty and the address is given. Small world. Who would have thought that an inquiry would have produced such results. My morning has gone away. I must change the sheets, take a shower and then make my doctor's appointment. Important as this one is a follow-up for my stint placed the end of January. Hi Dodie, Yes, Bessie and Clyde were siblings. There are pictures in my mother's photo albums of "Uncle Clyde". Unfortunately, my mother is now deceased and I only got interested in her tree after she died, but I have been doing a lot of stuff on ancestry. Let me know what you are most interested in and I will see if I have any missing pieces. It is so exciting to find someone interested in the same family lines!!! ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
Hello Elaine I don't have much to offer but what I have I will be more then happy to share. If I read your email correctly, Bessie was your grandmother which would make Isabell and George W. Campbell your greatgrandparents and that would boil down to Bessie and Clyde being siblings. Correct me where wrong. OH, this is so very exciting. Hi Dodie, I am related to the Heltons in Clay County through my mother, Lotus Byrd, whose mother was Bessie was born to Isabelle Helton Campbell. Bessie married G W Campbell. My great-aunt Lillian (Helton) married John Felty. I am doing research on all of these lines and would love to swap info. You can email me at _Elaine32250@aol.com_ (mailto:Elaine32250@aol.com) . To Betty, Arlena and James I owe a very big and heartfelt thank you. Now I know the marriage dates and parents names of Palace and Isabell and that Felty was a PO not a town. Also the marriage date for Isabell and George W. Campbell. Over the years I have posted a few inquiries but have never received such prompt and informative replies. I am truly impressed.
