    2. Sizemore
    3. The tombstone for George "All" Sizemore & Agnes (Shepherd) was placed in the Begley/Sizemore/Joe Napier Cemetery at Dry Hill, Leslie Co., KY. Here are the directions to the cemetery: Take Hwy 257 north at the red light by the Leslie County Courthouse in Hyden, KY. Just before mile marker 7, turn R across bridge over Middle Fork River. At end of bridge, turn R on Lower McIntosh Rd for about 5 blocks to Red Napier Rd. Turn R and cross bridge over Cutshin Creek. At end of bridge turn L on first drive up to a home. Cemetery is L of home in plain sight. Walk to the back of cemetery (walking uphill). The fieldstones of George “All” Sizemore & Agnes (Shepherd) are the last two stones about the center rear of cemetery. You can read the fieldstones looking downhill. The new tombstone was set so it could be read walking uphill. Monument company would not set the new tombstone near the large hickory tree by Agnes’ grave.

    1. Arthur Jackson, son of Willilam & Grandson of Milton & great-grandson of Haywood
    2. Sharon: Thank you for your e-mail. Yep this Arthur Jackson indeed is the right one and his descend is as listed in subject. It was originally thought by me when assessing the two Ida Jackson's six plus months ago that Arthur Jackson married Ida Jackson daughter of Felix Jackson and Lucy [Lucinda] Sizemore because the Ida born in 1901 had married a Philip Cox in 1939 and she was a divorcee. The grandchildren here in Michigan thought that their grandmother Ida died PRIOR to Arthur as Arthur had died 26 December 1938 and documented by Kentucky Deaths. After revisiting my original assessment I found Lucy Jackson in the household of a Ida Slusher and that a Eva her sister was in household of Noah Howard. To make a long story short DUMMY ME did not know that you could order marriage certificates from a county. Then began the process of getting the marriage license of Arthur Jackson and Ida Jackson and when arrived it proved that Arthur Jackson was the son of William Jackson and Mary Cox. And that Ida Jackson was the daughter of John Jackson with him signing a document indicating that Arthur Jackson was 17 years old and that his daughter Ida was born 12 November 1901 with Ada Bell and Liza Jackson signing document as witnesses. Mother Emily [Emma] Jackson was left off as being mother and I will not speculate why. But this wedding took place 17 November 1922 and with John Jackson marrying again 27 July 1925 one can figure out. A 48 year old Emma Jackson is in the household of Sarah [Clarkston] Mills in 1930 with indications that she is divorced. I have already sent out e-mails & scans concerning the verification of Arthur Jackson and Ida Jackson being husband & wife also with other relatives those being descendants of John and Emily/Emma Smith and also descendants of John's brother Thomas Jackson. Sharon I have also scanned material relating to Arthur's father William Jackson. He is listed in the 1894 Clay Co. School census as 13 years old and as Wm. Also in the Milton Jackson household at this time are as follows: B. 16, and Mils 12. Mils is listed as a male and B, I figure to be PERRY whom some have associated and or placed with William. It is proved here that and in the 1880 census that Perry was in the 1880 census. However, it is true the 1900 census of Knox County gives William's age as 22 making a birth around 1878. I take the school census, 1910, 1920 and 1930 census as showing that William was born after 1880. As for the male 12 year old Mils, I myself believe that there was a Milton Jackson Jr., and he was given the nickname "Mils." I would respectfully request others that have postings at rootsweb to kindly correct the lineage of Arthur Jackson and also that of Ida Jackson. I have Sharon you have the e-mail sent to you 29 June that shows the children of Arthur and Ida Jacksom. If you do not have it due to your computer problem please let me know as I will gladly resubmit it to ya. And if any out there requires the marriage certificates of William Jackson & Mary Cox; Arthur Jackson & Ida Jackson; Albert Jackson & Mary J. Brock; Bradley Sizemore & Ada Bell Jackson I will glady scan them to you. I also have a application for marriage register with no record of marriage of Philip Cox & Ida Jackson, widow of Arthur Jackson andf can scan this also to ya. It also should be mentioned here, that the marriage licenses show that Milton Jackson was an ordained Baptist Minister. And to me he followed the footsteps of his wife Rebecca's uncle, the recognized Baptist Minister around Brightshade of Thomas Stewart. It is my sincere desire to help in establishing the proper truth in lineage of these proud descendants/ancestors of Southeastern Kentucky. Arthur and Ida Jackson both died of the then dreaded disease Tuberculosis with Ida other factors involved. And Arthur was an youthful 33 years old and Ida 37. They have left a proud legacy and this is their tribute to correct some incorrect data. Any other useful material can be gleaned from one of their granddaughters [Angie] at Angel-list@hotmail.com Angie is not a typist and I proudly attempt to help her. For the scans & information that has already been sent please let me know. My best to you all and God Bless..

    1. Ruth Jackson b. 22 June 1936
    2. Good Afternoon Richard: You will have to excuse me for not answering your e-mails of 1 July until today as I did not access them untill this morning. Thank you so much for the proper information regarding Ruth. In fact it was two days after her 70th birthday that she met her cousins up here in Michigan at Indian Grave Branch, United Baptist Church southeast of Brightshade, Clay County, Kentucky. For any other info such as address of Ruth Jackson, can be gleaned by e-mailing Angel-list@Hotmail.com. Angie just informed me that G.C. Jackson, husband of Ruth Jackson has Alzheimer's and is in a nursing home of which Ruth visits every day. So it is trying days for this couple. Richard thank you for the death certificate and marriage certificate. However the other item did not come through somehow. I will pass these on to Angie and sisters. Oh before I forget. I noticed an e-mail of yours back in September 2002 in the Clay County Archives which peaked my interest regarding marriage bonds etc. You are so right and I have some information regarding Malakiah Smith as bondsman for Haywood Jackson and Roena Hubbard. What is unknown to most but I wish to refer everyone to the 1830 and 1840 census of Gibson Jackson. In the 1830 there are two males 0-5 years old. And one is a Hugh Parker. I will quote from Clay County Order Book on page 122 [of which I will scan to ya in next e-mail to follow: "230 On motion the clerk is ordered to bind to Gipson Jackson -- Hugh Parker infant three years old Jan 10, 1829 the art of farming to learn -- and that he execute the Indenture in the clerks office in 30 days." This was a court order prior to 22 Dec 1828. This accounts for one of the 0-5 males in 1830. In 1840 there is one male 10-15. In the tax list for 1848 and 1849 HAYWOOD JACKSON is next to GIBSON JACKSON. And in the 1870 census Haywood Jackson is noted as being 43 years of age. It is evident to me that Haywood Jackson is the son of Gibson Jackson and that he was the other male 0-5 in 1830 and was the lone male 10-15 in 1840. Malakiah Smith was his brother-in-law, and this is one way accounted for him posting bond and in the 1850 census Gibson & Rhoda were in Malakiah Smith's household. And I will also add here that I do not believe this Gibson Jackson is the Gibson Jackson as listed in 1790 census. Gibson Jackson was 70 in 1850 and the age compares with other years. In 1790 he would have been TEN [10] years old. The Gibson Jackson of 1790 could have been a namesake. Anyway that is all food for thought except that really Haywood was son of Gibson & Rhoda Jackson and I say named after Haywood Gilbert. Gotta wrap this up and thanks Richard & will be back with ya for more feedback. Take care and God Bless

    1. Clay County Tax Lists 1807-1852
    2. Mary Sue I can not possitively answer your question regarding why the name Benjamin Jones pops up in the bond that you refer to EXCEPT you must regard the time period that these things were done. I myself cannot find a Benjamin Jones during the time period you refer to in Clay County Tax Lists and these are very valuable products in checking on individuals living at the time as anyone 21 & over are taxed. There does happen to be a Andrew and John May and also a Samuel Jones. Naturally Kathy Hanlon at HanlonTX@aol.com" would be the authority on this but she is on vacation until after 15 July. Vardaman is spelled as Vandeman, Vardaman, Vardamon, Vardiman and Vandiman but he definitely was a Hubbard. Note in the censuses where he lived. Right next to Benjamin Hubbard. My best to you in your research but from where I sit, he is without a doubt a Benjamin son. And yes he appears on the tax lists. Mistakes happens all of the time during this time period. In fact if you check out you will see in the Kentucky Marriages, a listing of Mason Jackson as marrying a certain person, who just happens to be HIS DAUGHTER. It was her wedding but she was marrying someone else and UNFORTUNATELY the transcriber listed him as being married instead of being the bondsman. Good Luck and God Bless. Harold "Hal" Smith

    2. JASPER WAGES
    3. This is Betty Wages and we have a lot of relatives in and from Clay County, Ky.Your information is very interesting. I am sure you may know some of our relatives. I am thinking my Grandfather or GGrandfather was William Jones from Harlan, Ky. I read about him also that his last name may have been Gibson. Did you ever know Martha Belle Gregory that married Jasper Wages. I think she was born is Clay Co. Ky. and maybe lived in Laurel County, Ky. after they were married. This Martha Belle Gregory is My Husand's Grandmother. Her Father and Mother was Elisha and Lou Ann Jones Gregory. I would love to hear from you. All information would be appreciated. Please use our e-mail address: jasperwages@kih.net. Thanks Jasper and Betty Wages I am thinking that Martha Belle may have died around 1901 or close to that. Her Son's name were Highy Wages born 1899 and Elisha Wages born 1900. I am sure about Elisha date.He is My Jasper's Fahter. > [Original Message] > From: Mary Sue <marysuehubbard@murray-ky.net> > To: <KYCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> > Date: 7/2/2006 10:03:53 AM > Subject: [KYCLAY] Similiar Discrepencies on 2 Hubbard marriage bonds > > I would appreciate your help investigating a mystery. While reviewing my files to reply to a query on this list, I discovered a similiar discrepency that was made twice. I had known about the discrepancy on Vardaman (Hubbard/Jones) marriage bond, but thought it was a mistake made by the Court Clerk. Now that I've discovered a similiar discrepancy in the body of Benjamin Hubbard's (Jones) marriage bond, which was written 23 years before Vardaman's and by a different court clerk, I'm not so sure. Benjamin Hubbard is thought to be the father of Vardaman Hubbard. > > #1 Marriage bond Clay County, April 15, 1824, for Benjamin Hubbard & Sally May. > > Discrepency: Throughout the bond, which can be easily read, it refers to Benjamin as a "Hubbard," except the sentence "to authorise a marriage intended between the sd Benjamin Jones & Sally May." The bond was signed by Benjamin Hubbard & Samuel Jones > > All other records I have seen in 20 years of researching this family list Benjamin "Hubbard." This includes census and legal records from Ashe Co NC where he lived with his (father & brothers?) before coming to Madison County KY ca 1810. Benjamin also gave a deposition to help a Wm. Henson's widow obtain a Revolutionary War pension. In the depositon he gave his name as Benjamin Hubbard and said he was partly raised in Wilkes Co NC near Wm Henson. (Ashe was split from Wilkes) > > #2 Marriage bond Clay County, March 19, 1847, for Vardaman Jones Sally Smallwood*. > > Discrepency: Throughout the bond, which can be easily read, it refers to Vardaman as a "Jones." All other references I discovered about Vardaman have listed him as "Hubbard." > > About 15 years ago I met Vardaman's granddaughter, who was in her 90's. When I asked her if "Grandpa Varde" was a Hubbard or a Jones, she became aggitated and stated emphatically that he was a "Hubbard!" She said she remembered him well. I stopped researching the Jones matter after that. > > In "The Ebersole Families In America - 1727-1937," p103: > "Sally Eversole; m.
