    1. Re: [KYCHRIST] J. Phelps SASSEEN
    2. I am a descendant of the Sasseen family. John Phelps Sasseen, married to Mary Towles, was a son of William H. Sasseen and his wife Mary Martin. Their children included: John Phelps, William A., Sarah A., and Susan Banks Sasseen. James B. Sasseen was one of several brothers of William H. Sasseen; and he did also have a son named John P. Sasseen. This John P., however, was still single at the time of the 1880 census for Caldwell Co, KY, and was a Princeton groceryman according to that census. William H. Sasseen was himself a son of Lewis and Sally Phelps Sasseen who were also the parents of my ancestor Francis Green Sasseen, youngest brother of the William H. and John P. above, who later lived in Graves Co, KY. Cameron Allen has published some years back an extremely well researched and well documented study of the Sasseen family in America in the journal Virginia Genealogist. His study appeared in four parts, in each of four consecutive issues of that journal. The Sasseen family originated in America with the immigration of Francois Sasin/Sassin in 1700/1701 as a member of the first group of French Huguenot refugees to settle Manakin Town, Virginia. I will be happy to exchange information on this family with anyone else who is researching them. Regards, Betty Ravenholt
