Can anyone tell me of any site in VA that I might be able to trace roots back to when you only have first and last name and no spouse. I do have sons name.
I guess I would probably start with VAGenWeb project state page http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagenweb/ There is a query search engine there for unknown county that you can search for your names. There is also a Surname Registry and other links there that may help. After that, I would probably put a message on the VA message boards seeking info on your family. ~Hopefully someone else is seeking info or has info. Start here http://boards.ancestry.com/ and follow the link to the state you desire. From there you can search for your names or create an account if you do not already have one and post your query. Hope this helps - and good luck!
