Modern-day creation scientists are divided into many sub-groups according to their interpretation of the word "day" in Genesis, chapter 1. 1. Young Earth Creationists: Interpret the Genesis account of creation literally, the "day" in Genesis 1 is a standard 24 hour day. 2. Old Earth Creationists: Do not assign a specific length to a Genesis 1 "day" but believe god created earth and all its life forms millions of years ago. 3. Gap Theory Creationists: They believe a very long time interval elapsed between the first and second days of creation. They believe that the second to sixth days proceeded as told in the bible. 4. Day-Age Creationists: They define each of the "days" in Genesis 1 as referring to a specific time interval: 1000 years is a common interval. RE: Peter 3:8 ".........one day with the lord as a thousand years." As described above, creationists hold different interpretations of the passages in Genesis 1. They use the creation story and the great flood as the foundations for their beliefs. Most are evangelical or fundamentalist Christians who believe in the literal truth of the book of Genesis. Some are followers of other faiths who believe that their sacred texts of creation are literally true. Most look at evolution as denying their gods rightful roles as creator. If they abandon their faith in the accuracy of their sacred texts, than many of their traditional beliefs would be threatened. Is it Science? Absolutely not! Scientific creationism is not science because it is not based on observation and testing. Rather it is based on religious dogma. Examples of human civilizations are not found with dinosaurs and other ancient forms of life. This perhaps is the best indicator that life evolved over a period of time, rather than 6 days. Some of the many indicators that show contradiction and inconsistency in the Genesis story are: 1. Some plants depend on birds and ants for propagation. If plants were created on day 3 and birds and plants on day 5 and 6 and if each day is equal to 1000 years, then some plants would have had to survived without propagation for thousands of years. 2. Fossil record clearly shows that land animals developed before birds. In Genesis that account claims the opposite. 3. According to scientific data, stars existed long before earth came into existence, while in Genesis 1:16 asserts stars were created after the earth. 4. There is some 10 million species known of insects alone on our planet. There is an enormous number of species of birds, reptiles, and mammals. Can it be reasonably believed that Noah and his family could gather all those millions of animals in their ark? These are just a very small portion of evidence that shows the inconsistencies and contradictions in the bible. Scientists concentrate on what, how, where and when of history. Researchers in many fields from Astronomy to Geology, from Biology to Paleontology have used this method; most agree that the universe, the earth, and the earth's life forms have evolved over billions of years. To believe that evolution is how we got here is to believe that much of the bible does not represent the literal truth. In the minds of religious fundamentalists that cannot even be considered! Also, many find that the idea that our species developed from less complex life forms is repugnant. I think this makes many people less likely to accept evolution as reality, because they don't make a clear distinction between the appeal of an idea and it's authenticity. Another factor is that they find it more difficult to accept ideas that force then to rethink long held beliefs. I believe that the lat! e Carl Sagan said it best, "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence." There is no extraordinary evidence that supports the extraordinary claims in the bible, just folklore and myths of old. The human race no longer needs this. Just as children grow up and learn the truth about the tooth fairy and Santa Clause, the human race needs to mature and learn the truth about the existence of god and the accuracy of the bible. burn in hell cocksucker! aol
