Surnames: McIntosh, Miller Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mAB.2ACE/2404.2 Message Board Post: An Unfortunate Occurrence The recent killing of Mr. Cordie McINTOSH by Mr. Ellis MILLER, near Mannington, as near as we are able to get the facts, are as follows: It seems that an old grudge has existed between these men for quite a while. McINTOSH, the victim, was a married man and about thirty-five years of age. Ellis is a young man about twenty-five years of age, and up to the day in question, July 4th, was a single man. He, however, had just celebrated his nuptials that afternoon, McINTOSH hearing of the wedding went to the home of the bride, and upon his arrival began abusing Ellis, calling him a horse-thief and an ex-convict (alluding, of course, to a former trouble the young man had had with the authorities)--language well calculated to arouse the ire of any man. At these imprecations, Ellis walked out to his assailant and requested that he at once leave the premises, which he (McINTOSH) refused to do, whereupon Ellis seized a club, and dealt McINTOSH a severe blow. Nothing serious was apprehended at the time, but Ellis was placed under a $250.00 bond. Since the fatal night, McINTOSH continued to grow worse, finally resulting in death, last Monday afternoon, whereupon Ellis was re-arrested and sent to jail, next Friday being set for a hearing of the case.
