SALMON was born on a farm in Christian county, Ky., near Hopkinsville, on the 23d day of January, 1857; and attended the country district schools until he was 17 years of age, at which time he attended college in Taylorsville, Ills., for a while. He came back home and taught school in his native county until 1879, when in the spring of that year he went to Texas, but in a few months returned to Kentucky and accepted a position with the Hecla Coal Company at Earlington, and has ever since been a citizen of Hopkins county. On the first of April, 1883, he resigned his position with Hecla Coal Company and accepted a postion as store keeper with the CRABTREE Coal Co. at Ilsley. On the 15th of September, 1885, he was elected Secretary and General Manager of the CRABTREE Company, and has been the general manager ever since. It has been through the excellent management of Mr. SALMON that his company has arrived at its present importance in the ranks of mining. He is a man of fine business qualities, correct and honorable in all his dealings, pleasant and affable in his intercourse with his fellowman, has a host of friends, is popular where known, and is the proper one for the position he now so honorably holds. The members of the firm should congratulate themselves on having the services of one who so well represents their interests. On the 29th day of May, 1883, he was married to Miss Mollie RASH. Mr. SALMON takes a deep interest in everything that is for the upbuilding of his county and society. He is a warm friend and staunch supporter of the public schools. He is a Democrat and has done good. (Source: Madisonville Hustler, Fri., Feb. 24, 1893)
