I am researching the Stallings/Stallions/Stallons/Stallins family of W KY and believe Abigail to be the daughter of Reuben Stallions b abt 1750-1760 NC. Reuben appears in the 1810 Christian Co., KY census, the 1820 Hopkins Co., census, and the 1830 Hickman Co., Ky census. He dies abt 1838 in Caldwell Co., KY. In the 1850 Crittenden Co., KY census I show that Noah and Abigail had two children Susanna and Penelope. Any further info would be greatly appreciated. Mark Stallons

    2. Juanita, Then you and I would be related so we have made contact which is good though my McCords ended up in Kenton County, KY. I have wondered this many times as too just how many of the people with the same surnames miles apart are from the same family lines? I am sorry about you not getting to meet your Grandfather before he passed on. Mine passed on pretty young so like I told you the other day I never got to know mine either. Thanks, Charlotte

    3. It has occurred to me that is a possibility, that he might have had two middle names. Nothing to prove it, tho, and it does seem a bit strange. Yes, my McCords are from the Isle of Skye, and I have a bit of information on them starting with James Duncan McCord who died July 1689. The info I have was graciously given to me by a McCord researcher and it has been an enormous help. It was from this info I learned of James S. McCord, my grandfather. He died in 1955 in Hopkinsville, Ky. If I had known about him I could have visited him, but-- by that time I thought he had long been gone. But-- that's the way things go-- information comes too late. 2. You know I just wonder so much if there is a connection between your David McCord and mine who was called David McCord of Derry. In looking into things I think this was because he lived in the Derry township? :-) My David was born before 1715 in Westmoreland County, PA and died in Lancaster County PA in Derry Township in 1758. Now he had a son named David born abt 1737 which is also my direct line which leads down to my Grandfather Raymond Simms McCord born 2-21-1909 died 6-23-1954 in Kenton County, KY. Sad to say I never got to know him as I was born in November of 1952? On Ancestry I have a relative from one of our other McCord lines who puts our genealogy online every once in a while. He is a good researcher who has records to back up his research so you can feel safe with him as I do. Sad to say I only wrote my direct lines down so it is possible your McCords are in one of our other lines. He also knows the addy of the McCord Clan website which I used to have until I had take my computer back to factory settings of course loosing my book marks? Then again I may have this as he sent me the addy but I cannot remember if he typed it in or just put in a hyper link? I also will go back and look at your Sargent's and Watkins as I have these surnames in my lines too. Thanks, Charlotte Holleran

    2. Could be that he had more than one middle name as this has happened with others then later proved both middle names are correct. Sad to say sometimes this info is lost so one might not be able to prove this while others death certificates have this info on it as this happened with one of our Pendergrass women.. Are your McCords from the lines out of Isle of Skye, Scotland then later moved to Ireland? Charlotte Holleran

    3. I don't know what prompted the discussion below, but I quite agree with the person who posted this message. Out of the 27 years I've been involved in genealogy research, I have devoted 16 of those years to researching a single surname [and variant spellings], and, yes, I did a LOT of work - probably 7 or 8 years worth 24/7 - before I got to the point of being truly knowledgeable and able to assist others. As the poster stated, I was not appointed as a representative of this surname. It was my choice to work on it exclusive of all others. I do not have a web site of my own for this surname because others already had such websites. I might add that anyone concentrating on researching all persons by a certain surname should be willing to share their information freely with others. It is sometimes a thankless job, but most of the time, the appreciation I receive for helping people who are "stuck" on their line is so gratifying, no dollar amount could possibly be as satisfying. Frankly, I wish more people would take one surname and concentrate on it solely, but it takes a lot of organization, hard work of the "slogging" variety, and concentration, so I can understand why more people don't. -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of dianagm@dgmweb.net Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 3:51 PM To: KYCHRIST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYCHRIST] Re: adding names and web site links This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. If you want to work on a name, you work on it. If someone else wants to work on the same name, they can if they want -- you can't stop them any more than they can stop you. It's not a title or position someone bestows upon you, and there's no one out there making such appointments. You'll find that the person who comes to *unofficially* "represent" a surname is the person who has done the most work on the name, but you have to have done a LOT of work on a surname before you achieve that kind of status. And, today, it almost invariably means having a web site dedicated to the name. If you have a family web site, just put the FULL address in a message and post it here and on the appropriate surname boards, here at RootsWeb.com/Ancestry.com and at GenForum.com.
