    1. Re: [KYCHRIST] Clarksville, TN Civil War Roundtable forming
    2. Mr. Biggs, Thank you for inviting Christian County folks to join in the CWRT. As you will, and probably already have found; there are some of those who refer to the war as the Act of Northern Aggression. I can only say that I find it an interesting, yet sad, part of our history. Being a Christian County native who still claims the county as home, I'll say I am very interested in the Roundtable but cannot find the time to join in at this time. However, I wish you great success in your endeavor. Jean Clark ~~

    1. Re: [KYCHRIST] Clarksville, TN Civil War Roundtable forming
    2. Sir: There never was a Civil War in this country.....There was a war for Southern Independence !! When the South was convinced that the North had devieated so far from the Constitution that they could no longer be a part of the Union, they withdrew from the "Union" peacefully, legally, constutionally, and upon moral grounds! The "civil war" occurred in the North when Lincoln tried to draft men to fight in the south....for example, in New York when young men were to be drafted they protested in such a violent manner that Federal troops was sent to quash the rebellion (this is in itself a violation of the constitution), 1200 white men were killed and 83 blacks hanged. When Lincoln sent 75,000 troops to invade the South, this was unconstitutional ! The reason North Carolina seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy was not slavery but, as Governor Ellis so eloquently stated, a gross usurpation of power in violation of the Constitution. STUDY THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, THE U. S. CONSTITUTION, THE BILL OF RIGHTS, TREATY OF PARIS OF 1783, AND THE RATIFICATION CONVENTIONS OF THE FOLLOWING STATES; VIRGINIA, NEW YORK, RHODE ISLAND, ETC. Regards from an unreconstructed Southerner by the Grace of God !!! Everett Hicks....direct descendant of Thomas Nelson (signed D. of I. ) and Edmund Pendleton (attorney at law) who wrote the first draft of the Declaration of Independence at the request of Thomas Jefferson !

    1. [KYCHRIST] Peter THOMPSON
    2. Diana Gale Matthiesen
    3. I'm looking for any information on Peter THOMPSON in Christian or Todd Co. He was born by 1765, place unknown, and died 1839/40 in Missouri. One historical secondary source says he was Danish, but family tradition says English. Peter shows up on the tax rolls of Christian Co. from 1797 to 1819. His land was in the watershed of the West Fork of Red River, so when Todd Co. was formed in 1820, Peter began appearing on the tax rolls of Todd Co. In 1827, Peter moved to Missouri, but his neighbor, Nathanial BURRUS, continued to pay Peter's taxes on the land through 1839 as his agent. In 1840 and 1845, Nathaniel pays the taxes as agent for "Peter THOMPSON heirs." The 1810 census shows Peter THOMPSON had at least eight children, but I know the names of only two: Thomas THOMPSON, b. 7 Jul 1797, who married in Christian Co. on 21 Dec 1815 to Delilah DAVIS, and Rachael THOMPSON, b. 17 Jul 1803, who married in Todd Co. on 19 Jan 1825 to William WYATT. They went to Missouri, too. Seeking the names of Peter's other children, his wife, and his parents, but any tid-bit of information greatly appreciated. Everything I have on him is online at my web site in the form of a family group sheet: http://dgmweb.net/genealogy/SRoots/FGS/PeterThompson.htm Diana

    3. Is this offer for anyone or just Owen family? My ancestors Henry Galbraith and Sallie Boone Galbraith lived in Christian Co. during the 1830's and 40's before moving to Hickman Co. Their children were born in Christian Co. When they get to Hickman Co. Henry disappears in 1856 and is presumed dead, but I can't find his grave. Is he buried in Christian Co. somewhere. There is another family, the Samuel Galbraith family in the 1840 census for Christian Co. They are gone by the 1850 census. Were they related to my Galbraiths. I'm looking for a will or burial info on these Galbraiths. Is there anything in your library to help me that would make the trip from Texas worthwhile? 3. Suzanne, the Knight/Pace cemetery you mentioned is in Muhlenberg County-highway 189. I talked to a lady this morning who was a Sherrod. She thought your Samuel's father was John. I found a John W. Sherrod born about 1822; married Sarah A. Richardson Oct.26, 1841; they had a son William S. Sherrod born about 1854. You might check further on this couple. I have your Samuel W.
