Cy. M. BROWN, of Hopkinsville. He was taken sick only a few days since and died Sunday night. He was the representative in the legislature from Christian county, was about 40 years old and had never married. He was a large man in body and had a heart that was equally as large. He was one of nature's noblemen and was beloved and respected by all who knew him. We had known him a long time and loved him very much. He was a man of ability, was a good speaker and a splendid writer. His death will be mourned by thousands of people. (Source: Madisonville Hustler, Tue., Aug. 11, 1896)

    3. Hi Roger ... Ben is my daddy. I called him and he says hello! He remembers you too ... and that you were one of the all around good guys and just plain nice in school. And he thinks he also remembers your momma from a year she worked with him and Donnie Tinsley stripping tobacco. Daddy went into the USAF and retired in '86. He and momma live in a little town in Florida. We were stationed here in Florida back in '75 and daddy lost touch with just about everyone from the "old days." <grin> I forwarded your email to him and he hopes that he can email you back one of these days. And said he appreciated you remembering him as a nice guy. He says that he thought he was the proverbial "hell-raiser" in highschool ... <grin> ... but I honestly have a hard time believing it. Daddy just has always been good to me. But isn't it always hard for the kids to believe some of the high jinks that our folks got up to when they were young. ROFL!!! 3. Found the connection I was looking to unravel with my previous post about the Charles Major family. At least part of the way. My step grandfather was William Meridith "Billy" Goff (1904 - 1977) Turns out his mother WAS named Lester Bradshaw. Yep, that's right, his mother's name was Lester. She was born sometime about 1884 in KY and married for the first time when she was 20 years old according to the 1930 census. In 1904 I KNOW she was married to William Alexander Goff who died during WWI in 1917. However, by the 1930 census she is listed as Lester Cooksey and married to a TC Cooksey who was 11 years her senior. Now Lester's mother was Margaret Bradshaw (abt 1850 - 1935). I know that Margaret was a Major prior to her marriage because of some research on the KYSEEKER website I was doing. BUT, I don't know which Bradshaw she was married to. Margaret Major Bradshaw's parents were Howard Major and Rachel Ann McDonald/MacDonald. Howard Major's father was Charles Major ... which is how this how ball of yarn began to unravel for me. <grin> I just had to come at it from the backside. Now, if anyone could enlighten me about which Bradshaw that Margaret/Maggie E. Major was married to I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. 1. [KYCHRIST] Need info on the Charles Major family of Christian Co., KY
    2. MICHAEL MARTINEZ
    3. Hello. My apologies for the cross post for the area ... but I'm needing some help. My aunt found something that may help me finally find a small piece of the puzzle of how my step-grandfather relates to the Goff's in KY. A letter she found in my grandmother's things recently (she died in 1979, but you know how that goes) is a letter from a committee that was trying to put together a family reunion for the Charles Major descendants. Charles Major was born about 1775 according to this letter and died in Christian County in 1857 and was buried at his home place, Cedar Grove on Palmyra Road. My grandfather died in 1977 so I don't know whatever came of this. He ... and a slew of other folks on the back of the letter ... are listed as descendants of this Charles Major. However, it doesn't state how they were descended from the line. I was wondering if anyone could be so kind as to enlighten me as to who this man was and if there is still a family group that researches this line. My step grandfather and his biological son are the only two Goff's that are listed so the descent may be from his mother's side ... and I'm not for sure of her name. I appreciate any and all help that you all can give me on this. Kathy Kathy in FL mamkmm2@prodigy.net http://www.easyfunschool.com Free Newsletter: EFSNewsletter-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

Any suggestion? These ancestors arrived in the county in 1880's. There are no Kentucky death certificates until the year 1911, when it became law that they had to be kept. There would be none if your ancestor died in the county in 1906. There could be an obit in the old newspapers, but not all the years are available. You might check with the Christian County Genealogy Library, where they have someone who might do a look up for you in that office. Jean C.~ ~
