Antony BLYE, colored, was shot in the head and almost instantly killed by Dave LEDFORD, also colored. They were neighbors, and the killing grew out of an old fued in which LEDRORD's sister had been badly cut up by BLYE's sister. The men had quarreled over it before and meeting that morning, BLYE rushed upon LEDFORD, who opened fire, shooting BLYE four times, one ball entering his head and one his throat. LEDFORD then escaped, but officers are on his track. (Source: Earlington Bee, Thur., Nove. 17, 1892)
Marilyn, Helped? I've been looking for years for the confirmation that Richens' wife was named Catherine. I've never known her name, but on my ggrandmother's (Frances Virginia "Fannie" Brame Wootton [married to David Christopher Wootton]) grave it said she was the dau. of C. & R. Brame. I knew Fannie's father was Richens' Brame, says so on her marriage record in Mecklenburg Co, VA. I suspected her mother was Catherine--from the combination of the gravestone & that her oldest dau. was Mary Catherine (Mary, her paternal grandmother). I don't know yet who those other people are on the census w/them; but that will give me some more direction. And how nice of you to give me the next households! The James Brame is Fannie's brother. I know none of her other siblings, but someone told me Richens had 10 children (but the lady's health was poor, & she was unable to tell me more). Joseph living nearby may also be a brother. Fannie was grown w/children when they moved to Christian Co. (1830); so I don't know if all the family moved to KY or some stayed in VA. Fannie & her husband David Wootton both died in Christian Co. during the Civil War & are buried in Flat Lick Cemetary. I suspect Fannie's mother's maiden name was Lacy, as her oldest son, my ggrandfather was named Richens Lacy W. --but clues, only. I'm sorry to ramble on so; I know I've already told you more than you wanted to know--I'm so pleased; I just appreciate this so. Thank you, Jan. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! She was born Jan 27, 1866 TN to Bob and Susie [Wilburn] Holder of TN. She married a Dick Ford in TN & had three children with him before Dick died. She came to Christian Co., KY with her daughter and family then married the widower Henry Oliver. Her death certificate says she is buried at Hawkins where her grandaughter Viola Riley was buried before her, and her great great grandson Elvis Riley was buried after her. Evie died Jan 29, 1946 Christian Co., KY. I myself have walked the cemetery and found no stone for her. I'm told, according to the book "Cemeteries of Northern Christian Co., KY, Elvie Oliver name appears between Angeline Jewel & Myrtle Cooper. The next name after Myrtle Cooper is Elvis Riley. That there are 11 names between her grandaughter Viola Riley and Evie Oliver. That Viola Riley is buried in the Croft section of Hawkins Cemetery. If anyone can locate a death notice on her I'd appreciate it!

They only keep in the bigger cemeteries records of who bought the plot not who is buried there. There are no records for the cemeteries in the county kept by anyone unless someone takes it upon themselves to keep track of them. The cemeteries now are getting better about it and the funeral home records only tell what cemetery they are buried in and not the location. Now, all this aside, the library here in Hopkinsville, have cemetery books and they are in the process of getting this updated because the last time was in the 60's & 70's. If a headstone was found in the Hawkins Cemetery then it should be recorded. Let me know what you want to know and I will look in the books and see if I can find the info. that you want. If the death was in 1946 and they died in Ky. then a death certificate and death notice in the paper can be found. Rebecca Owen

According to info given to me, the book you mention for cemeteries in the Northern section of Christian County is no longer available. However, the cemetery books are being compiled again, with many corrections and additions, and many of us are anxiously awaiting their arrival. I believe they had hoped to have them completed before the end of '03, but had a delay because of indexing. There are copies of the old books in the library here.
