    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/mAB.2ACE/2510 Message Board Post: Does anyone have anything on the James Williams and Nancy West? I am actually trying to find out if my Jesse Williams is related to this family. The Jesse Williams I am related to had a sister named Polly believed to have married a Gibson or Gillison Price. They all lived around the same area not only in Christian Co but in Posey County Indiana and Wayne County Illinois too. There is a lot info I have found that directs me to this family as being my Jesse Williams's Family. No one I have found has any information on the Jesse Williams, son of James and Nancy either. What I would like to know if you know who in this family moved to Posey County does anyone happen to know? Also Jesse's Sons name was William Stephen Williams ( according to the family of James and Nancy Williams there is a brother named Stephen Williams, which would explain where William Stephen Williams's middle name came from). Most of the names in my family all have came down threw the years. Sorry to bother anyone with this but can anyone tell me anything on this Williams in Christain Co KY? Sincerely, Kristen Williams webmaster@williamsgenealogy.net

    3. Please share with me specific instances in which C-h-r-i-s-m-a-n was spelled C-h-r-i-s-t-m-a-s. I have MANY Christman/Chrisman/Crismon/etc. documents and have never seen the name spelled C-h-r-i-s--t-m-a-s. However, there was a family in North Carolina with the surname of Christmas. As far as I have been able to determine, there is no connection between that Christmas family and the Christman family of Anson/Rowan/Mecklenburg/Cabarrus, Co., NC, Lancaster Co., SC, Christian Co., KY, Morgan/Scott Co., Il/etc. Carole Irene Crismon Cook -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of whaack2344@aol.com Sent: Thursday, January 15, 2004 10:54 AM To: KYCHRIST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [KYCHRIST] Re: KNIGHT FAMILIES- 1795 - 1820 This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 1. [KYCHRIST] Roads in early Christian Co. - Colley, Hicks, Nichols, Scoggins, Early lands
    2. I am trying more precisely to locate the land owned by my Christian/Caldwell County Colley ancestors by reading early court order book descriptions of roads and road work. Can anyone help me with this? I think I'm lost. My Colley ancestors lived on land on the waters of the Muddy Fork of the Little River and on the waters of Wallace's Fork beginning in 1799. In Perrin's history of Christian County, published in 1884, the Colley farms were described as being on the Princeton road near the Caldwell County line. Am I correct in thinking that this "Princeton road" would have run roughly where Highway 91 does today? In Christian County Court Order Book A, page 156, 22 August 1803, it says: "Etheldred Scoggins resigned as Surveyor of the road leading from the crossing of the Muddy Fork at Willis Hicks to the Livingston County line and that Lott Nichols be appointed in his stead as far as Jacob Colleys and James Cook from that to Livingston County line and that Sam'l Bradley, Esq., allot the hands." In 1800, Livingston County's southern line extended from what is now Hopkins County's border down to what is now the eastern border of Marshall County. So, was the road described in the court order above the same road as what was later known as the Princeton road? Viewing, surveying, and arguing over a similarly described road appears to have gone on for some years. Throughout, there is frequent mention that this road should run from Willis Hicks' to "the house and barn." No further description of the house and barn or its owner is given. Does anyone have any idea as to what landmark the house and barn that apparently needed no further description could have been? On 10 December 1804, my ancestor Andrew Colley along with Willis Hicks, Samuel Bradley and John Colley were appointed to "review and mark that part of the road leading from Willis Hicks to the house and barn and report thereof to our next County Court." Am I correct in thinking that the men who were assigned to view and mark off roads were chosen from among the owners of the land through which the proposed road would pass? Finally on 12 August 1811, the court ordered that the road be opened. "It is therefore ordered that said road be established according to the report of the viewers from said Hicks to the house and barn and that it be opened accordingly 30 feet wide. It is ordered that Luke Nichols be appointed surveyor of the said road from said Hicks to the house and barn commencing at the Muddy Fork and continuing to Jacob Colley's Spring Branch, Mathias Early from that to house and barn with allotment of hands filled." Jacob Colley and Jacob Walton had objected to the proposed siting of the road. Are these court orders describing two different roads or was the road "to the house and barn" the same as the road later called the Princeton road? Does anyone know where Willis Hicks' land lay? I will greatly appreciate any help that anyone can give me in more precisely locating the land mentioned in the road orders. Thanks! Betty Ravenholt

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Weaver, Wiles, Cravens, Davis, Clark, Bush Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mAB.2ACE/2506 Message Board Post: A MURDERER SURRENDERS And Begs to be Taken Out of the County for Safe Keeping Officers CRAVENS and DAVIS who went to Sinking Fork Thursday evening to arrest D.B. WILES and his son, William, for the murder of Walter B. WEAVER, failed to get the elder WILES. The son, a simple-minded young fellow who probably had nothing to do with the killing, was brought in and put in jail, where he now is, in default of a $500 bond. D.B. WILES spent the night at Hon. H.B. CLARK's near Belleview, and Mr. CLARK came to town the next day and arranged for his surrender, as he claimed to be afraid of a mob. Mr. CLARK employed Mr. C.H. BUSH as his attorney and late that night the officers met WILES at Mr. BUSH's house and he surrendered and remained in jail that night, waiving examination. The next day he was taken to Henderson and will remain in jail there until the grand jury meets. WILES confesses that he killed WEAVER, but his attorney is not ready yet to lay down the line of defense. It will be that the shots were fired in his own defense, while WEAVER was trying to ride over him. Public sentiment is greatly against WILES. It is claimed that he stood in ambush and deliberately shot WEAVER from his horse, that his victim died clutching his riding switch in his hand, probably ignorant of what hit him. He was unarmed and entirely unprepared for trouble with his armed enemy. Great indignation prevails over the bloody deed and the people would not hesitate to lynch WILES if he could be gotten hold of. He was right in wanting to get out of the county as soon as possible. In the light of the evidence now at hand, WILES is a brutal assassin who deserves the severest penalty of the law.---Kentuckian. (Source: Earlington Bee, Thur., Dec. 8, 1892)
