If this may be of some help. I believe that there was a John Gothard Jr. and he had a brother named Robert Gothard. Also possibly a sister or two. I found those in the Virginia marriage info. The father of these were John L. Gothard that would have been there in 1802 for sure. I got that from the census. Robert was there at some point and then no longer in the census. In the story we were told was that there were two brothers and they came over and they some how got separated and that some of them changed the spelling to Goddard. I have not found any documents so far but am looking. I do believe that the families are tied together though. If you want my email address for further correspondense. Theresa Gothard

Before 1880 all of his children moved to Johnson County Arkansas. If you would like information on Jesse's children let me know because I have them all and who they married. Sure if you could pass it along I would appreciate it. With Jesse moving when he was somewhat of a young man this would explain why no one has information on him. He didn't marry in KY he married in IN but the person he married Nancy Caldwell, she was from Warren County KY, which I know is close and was also a part of Logan County at one time as well. You must have much more information on the children of James then I do, I did not have all of their birth dates only years they were born. Well some I had but, I did not have an exact birthday for Mary "Polly" Williams Price. I know she was buried in Lucust Grove next to Gillison, however her headstone only says her birth year. Also a bit of information I do know about Jesse is the fact he named his youngest son Jordan Gillison Williams, the names of his other sons were: William Stephen Williams and James Caldwell Williams (James Caldwell was the name of Nancy's father & the name Jordan was the last name of Nancy's mother Susannah Jordan Caldwell), before I found the James Williams family I never knew where the name "Stephen" came from no other person in our family has that exact name. So as you can see this seems to be the most likely family for my Jesse Williams to fit into. He seems to have named his children even a couple of the female children in his family after family members that also match James daughters names. They were Martha, Mary "Polly", Sarah Jane, and Ellen "Nellie". I know the last 2 are named for sisters of Nancy Caldwell Williams. Job Calvin was the overseer of the Poor in Posey County Indiana, that job then went to Gillison Price. Jesse Williams is listed as being the overseer of the roads in Posey County. Members of the Primitive Baptist Church in Wayne County Illinois list the last names of members being that of: Calvin, Williams, Price, Caldwell, Jordan, and Meeks (the Meeks family was another that moved from SC>KY>IN>ILL). These members were not all members of the same church but they were members of this denomination of Primitive Baptist in Wayne County. Jesse & Nancy Williams and Gillison & Polly Price all lived in Mt. Erie Illinois. Some of the church members in the other segment I sent you about Providence Church were members of Long Prairie Church & were released to start the Providence Church. Anything you can give me to help me on this will be appreciated. I mean I have no proof they are in fact related but there are many signs that point this way. Kristen mickeysmile440@comcast.net

There are some gifts from James given to Jesse in the records of Christian County, however the gifts stop when Jesse moved to Posey County Indiana. Jesse also served as surity for the marriage of Polly and Gillison Price in Christian County in 1817. The Price's also moved to Indiana and to Wayne County Illinois, where Jesse Williams lived in 1840-1870, he lived Posey County 1817/1818-1840. Jesse married a Nancy Caldwell in Posey County Indiana in 1819. The Daniel you mention I believe was the son of John Williams and Sarah Calvin. I believe John Williams was a relation to this family, but I have not been able to prove this. Also my Jesse Williams was born about 1794 in South Carolina (according to him saying this on the 1850 census of Wayne County, he lived with a James Walker family), but all of his children list him on census's being born in KY. These are notes given to me by Mr John G. W! est: Fern Williams documentation which stated that 'she had a book with the flyleaf gone, a sequel to English Reader'. On the inside of the front cover of this book the names of Amos, Alvin, James and Steven Williams (four sons) were written. This statement followed the names of the sons: "James Williams is my name, America is my nation, Christian County is my dwelling place, and Iieus (Jesus) my salvation". Inside the back cover of this book were the names, Stephen and Jesse Williams (again 2 sons, with Steven being named inside the front cover also); followed by the date 1824. Also on the inside back cover: 'Alvin, 7 Nov 1813 (interpreted to be Alvin's birthday). This referenced book did not document the sixth son, Warren; nor any of James and Nancy's daughters. Census of 1810 Christian County: James Williams Family 1810: Males: under 10 = 2 10-16 = 2 16-26 = 1 ( Probably Jesse) 26-45 = 1 Females: under 10 = 2 10-16 = 1 ( Probably Polly ) 26-45 = 2 Notes I have on John Williams and his family: heirs of John Williams: James Calvin was administrator of the estate. Heirs are Calvin, Isaac, and Daniel Williams; Rebecca Calvin; Abigail Davis; Nancy Davis; and "Cassa" Thomas [Cassander]. The following is written by Thelma R. Farnsworth: The earliest of our Williams family that I have been able to find and prove goes back to John Williams who may have been born in South Carolina. He must have married in that state because some of his children were born in South Carolina. His father-in-law, Jobe Calvin, served in the Revolutionary from that state. The records in that state are very meager and many of the records were destroyed during the Civil War. The name--John Williams is very common in the south so I have no idea on how to proceed on that line. I've tried to proceed on the Calvin or Colvin line hoping to find a connection between the two families but in this I have failed--nor could I find anything on the Calvin family. John was born about 1770. He married Sarah, the daughter of Jobe and Nancy Calvin about 1796. The proof of this is found in the will of Jobe Calvin; Sarah is listed as one of heirs. John and Sarah had seven children that I know of: Daniel, Abigail, Nancy, Rebecca, Cassandra, Isaac and Calvin. The six oldest children signed a deed transfering the property over to Calvin after the death of their father. John and Sarah moved to Christian Co., Kentucky about 1800, settling on a farm near the the Calvin family who had moved there a few years earlier. They lived here about ten years. Some of their children were born here. By 1810, the Calvin and Williams families were living in Posey Co. Indiana. John and Sarah's last child, Calvin, was born here on May 2, 1810. He is my second great grandfather. John died on July 24,1830 at the age of sixty. He is buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Bethel Township, Posey Co. Indiana. Sarah died between 1850 and 1860. Jobe died in 1833, his will was probated on Dec 25, 1833. I don't know anything about Jobe's wife Nancy. For the next fifty years or so, Posey County, Indiana, is the area where most of the decendants of John Willimas and Jobe Calvin have lived. Even today in 1993, some of their decendants can be found in that county. Children of John Williams and Sarah Calvin: Daniel Williams born 1798 Nancy Williams born 1803 Abigail Williams born 1804 Rebecca Williams born 1805 Cassander Williams Isaac Williams Calvin Williams John Williams and wife Sarah moved along with her father Job Calvin, Jesse Williams and the family of Mary "Polly" and Gillison Price (son of Joseph Price) to Posey Indiana. I do not know if they were family or just friends that happened to have the same last name, but I believe that John and James Williams were brothers. Also note that John and Sarah Williams came from Newberry Dist. South Carolina. More on Jesse and Nancy Williams: They helped start a Primitive Baptist Church in Wayne County: PROVIDENCE CHURCH MT ERIE WAYNE CO ILLINOIS Providence Church was organized on July 4, 1846, by Elders Richard Gardner, Jeremiah Doty and C. S. Madding, in Mt. Erie township. The charter members were dismissed for that purpose from Long Prairie Church, viz.,Thomas Travers, Jesse Williams, John Meadows, Nathaniel Travers, Reuben Whitaker, W. H. Harrelson, Nancy Williams, Hannah Vandeveer, Mary Rice Sr., Elizabeth Collins, Christiana Travers, Catharine Harrelson, and Cecelia McCollum. In February 1851 the church accepted and sanctioned the actions of the brethren in building a meeting house on land donated by Alexander Ramsey, Sr. In June 1867 a deed was presented for the land on which the church house was located. Pastors of this church included Elders Jeremiah Doty (1846), Champion S. Madding, J. D. Jones, Lewis Hunsinger, David S. Ford, H. C. Bell, A. J. Coale, and others. Elder Lemuel Potter united with this church in October 1863. Other ministers who were members here included Elders John Clements, A. P. Whitlow, James D. Jones, Joseph R. Gardner, and James F. George. Elder James D. Jones was ordained here Kristen Williams mickeysmile440@comcast.net

John Miller November 7, 1823. Her father was James Williams Sr. who was married to Nancy West Williams about 1793. Notes for James Williams Sr. are: James Williams was present in Christian Co., KY as early as 1797 as evidenced by "Christian Co., KY Court Order Book A, for the years 21 Mar 1797 - 29 Aug 1805, WB-pg 6" where JAMES WILLIAMS and (brothers?) STEPHEN & DANIEL WILLIAMS were witnesses to a condemnation of mill seat on Little River on the 6 Apr 1797. James Williams also appears on the Christian Co., KY Tax List for the years 1797 through 1809. Reference page 8 of the 1810 Christian Co., KY census which showed the James Williams household consisting of James age 26-45, wife same age, with 4 male and 3 female children. It also notes the presence of 2 slaves. Reference page 5 of the 1820 Christian Co., KY census which showed the James Williams household consisting as follows: MALES = 1 age 0-10, 1 age 10-15, 2 age 18-26, and 1 age 45-up; FEMALES = 3 age 0-10, 1 age 10-15, and 1 age 16-18. This would seem to indicate that his wife, Nancy West was deceased by 1820 since there is no female in the household who approached James' age or was old enough to have had the children listed. Note that James Williams was living near some of the Tucker, Henderson, Lacy, and Meacham families who were all known to have migrated from North Carolina. Reference page 39 of the 1830 Christian Co., KY census where James is living next to his son, Stephen Williams. Reference page 82 of the 1840 Christian Co., KY census where James is still living (age 60-70). James is assumed to have died between 1840-1850 because he is not listed in the 1850 Christian Co., KY census. No will has been located by the compiler for James Williams no deeds were recorded in his name that listed any children etc. He was only named on a couple of deeds as a witness or where land was sold that bordered his land.
