MEACHAM at Kellys, one day last week. Our informant who was standing talking to him as the train drew nigh that he called to him to look out, there was a train, they were standing at the time between the side and main tracks, and when he spoke, MEACHAM seemed to forget what he was doing and instead of stepping back on the side track started across main track just in front of engine, and when Engineer SMILEY who was in charge of engine sounded the whistle, MEACHAM turned his head back and looked, but never reached the other side of track until struck, and so fatally injured that he died in about three hours afterward. Why he ever attempted to cross the track at that time when train was right at hand is, indeed, a hard myster to solve. Jim, I'm sure this issue will come up again in the future. The solution is to get one of our Rep. to sponsor a bill that is to our liking. Some states issue non-certified copies for genealogical use only. They are stamped "Not for identification purposes. Genealogical use only." This would solve the problem for us and for the general public. Sharon The bill was sponsored by M. Weaver, E. Ballard, P. Clark, F. Nesler, J. Surnames: Russell, Bell Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mAB.2ACE/2413.2.1 Message Board Post: Suicide at Hopkinsville A most shocking tragedy was enacted last Sunday evening at Hopkinsville, at 6:15 o'clock, in which Miss Cammie RUSSELL, the beautiful and accomplished sixteen-year-old daughter of J.D. RUSSELL, a wealthy citizen of that place, and Vice-President of the Planters Bank, took her own life. Fifteen minutes before the awful deed was committed, Miss RUSSELL stood at the front gate of her lovely home, gaily chatting with a party of young friends, the very picture of health, youth and beauty. Still in the best of spirits, happy and jolly as she was wont to be, she left her friends at the gate, talking to them as she walked backward towards the house, a hundred or more feet away. She answered the telephone and then went upstairs to her room while the rest of the family were called into supper about that time. As she failed to put in an appearance at the supper table, her mother sent the cook out to call her, about the time the meal was finished. Not finding her in the house, she went to the gate and called to the neighbors to know if Miss Cammie was there. As she was not found, her father left the table and began to search for her, not dreaming that a tragedy had occurred. Going into the garden, some fifty feet beyond the house, under a peach tree, he found he! r dead body. She was lying partly on her side and partly on her face, with her right hand under the wounded side of her face, dead, with her father's pistol lying by her with one chamber empty. The horrified father took her tenderly in his arms, bore her into the house and placed her on a bed. Drs. Darwin BELL and RUSSELL were at once summoned, and an examination soon revealed the fact that the wound was in the right temple, under the fluff of her beautiful brown hair, and the cruel ball had evidently done its work instantly. Miss RUSSELL was attired in a new and handsome dress, and wore two or three rings on her hand, one of them an elegant diamond given her by her mother on her birthday, two days before. She was the youngest of a family of four children, and was of a bright, happy disposition, with a pleasant smile and a jolly word for all her friends, and a universal favorite wherever known. Surrounded by the luxuries and comforts of a happy home, with friends and admirers without number, kind and indulgent parents, loving brothers and sisters, with nothing but brightness in her future, it seems incredible that she could have taken her own life. The fact of suicide however, was clearly established out Monday noon, by the finding of two letters which threw a flood of light on the affair. Both letters were written to a young man and contained threats of suicide. The first was written October 6th, in which she declared her intention to "fill a suicide's grave." This letter was never delivered. The second letter was evidently written a few moments before the act. It was short, and referred to the former letter to explain the motive. They were written in a firm hand, and signed "Cammie Brown RUSSELL." The family is one of the most prominent in Hopkinsville, and the affair happened in the most fashionable residence portion of the city. The funeral was held at the Ninth Street Presbyterian Church, at 2:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon. (Source: Earlington Bee, Thur., Oct. 17, 1895)

I have a suggestion as well. I use Incredimail as my email program (instead of outlook express), it's a lot like outlook express but it offers a block and bounce back to sender option. I have found I get a lot less junk email by using this program for my email. Once you block then bounce the emails back to them they believe it's a bad email address, therefor they stop sending it email. I am not sure where you can download it for those who would like to try this but you can look up incredimail in any search engine and get the site, it's free and they also have a pay version, but I only use the free one and it's great. For those who read the list via the web, your best bet is to just not click on links. For instance, I am on McCord, Morse, Calvert, lists. I get e-mail from people who are using these names and when I open the letter it is an advertisement and sometimes it is for porn sites. I mentioned this to a friend and he said that it's possible that people who want e-mail addresses for advertising purposes might be getting them from genealogy sites. All I know is that lately I have been getting a lot of spam with my family's names in the "From" column. So, another thing of beware of. Juanita At 09:18 AM 3/27/04 -0500, you wrote: >Diann, > >No! Hello everyone, I also use incredimail and it is great to block the junk, but there is also another program that is free, that I ck my mail with first, it will not let the junk even go to Incredimail. The name of it is Mail Washer and her is where you can get the free download. http://www.mailwasher.net/main.php Kay Best
There is a way for people to "harvest" emails from message boards, web sites etc. Those names are then put on mailing lists and sold to people who sell porn, junk etc. Hence your email full of spam emails. So think before you allow your email to go on a web site or message board. Sometimes its better to imbed it in your message, makes it just a bit harder for them to harvest. Lots of dishonest people out there doing their best to get your money - any way they can. So don't hesitate to use that delete key. Never respond to emails that come in offering this junk - not even to ask them to take you off. It just confirms that this is a live email. Sometimes you can forward it to the ISP from which it originated. Although they want to see the "actual" sender and not the person you see on the header in your email. Use the delete KEY alot and just NEVER open an email or click on URL's in the email if you don't know the sender. Sad state of our society when dishonesty is so out of hand that honest people have to put up with this garbage!
