If you are interested, you can contact me at Ed and Lois Denaut at ldenaut@yahoo.com Jefferson Davis was born June 3, 1808, in that portion of Christian county, Kentucky, which was afterwards set off as Todd county.Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederate States of America and commander-in-chief of the army and navy. As one result of the fall of the armies the President was made a captive by the military, imprisoned in chains, charged unjustly with crimes for which he demanded trial in vain, and after two years of imprisonment which disgraced his enemies was released on bond. A nolle prosequi was entered in his case in 1869, and thus he was never brought to the trial which he earnestly demanded. After this release on bail the ex-President enjoyed an enthusiastic reception at Richmond, Virginia, and then visited Europe. The death of the President occurred at New Orleans about one o'clock a.m., December 5, 1889, and the event was announced throughout the Union.
Would you happen to have any Hight family from the middle Tennessee area in your records ? Some of the TN family may have spelled their name Height,Hite or some other way. Jerusha Ann Hight (of now Wilson Co., TN) married Drury Matthew Roberts, probably in Wilson Co. Their first child was born in 1864, so I`m guessing they married around 1844. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I do not have any documentation to actually establish that Jesse West is a son or brother of Thomas West, Sr. nor a brother of Thomas West, Jr. or Ignatius (son of Thomas West, Sr. & brother of Thomas West, Jr.). Do you have any type of document or family Bible that makes this connection? There were at least two Ignatius West, perhaps three or even four, in Chatham & Orange Counties of NC (where Thomas West, Jr. left to come to Christian Co, KY with his grown sons and daughters and their families). There appears to be two separate WEST families in Christian Co. The Northern County West & the Southern County West. The Northern family from NC and the Southern ones from VA. Another son of Thomas West, Sr. is Richard West who is believed to settle in Logan Co., KY or at least some of his children settled there. I have assumed that this Jonathan you mention was from the Southern West or the Logan Co. & Calloway Co., KY West or some other West (relation unknown) such as your Jesse West. John, my ancestor is Jesse West (1768-1854?), brother of Ignatius. He married Sarah Lacy, aunt of the Susanna who married William West and had the twins. So the twins were my double cousins. About the reason William outlived Harmon: that was my first thought too, that he was single! Ha! Also interested in determining if JONATHAN WEST of Christian Co is the son of Jesse. He is the correct age and born in NC, shows up on the 1850 census spelled "Johnathan", with wife Lottie. Nancy dotsicle
Nancy, I assume you know that William West, Sr. was the son of Ignatius West (1750-1831)and Elizabeth Meacham (1758-1829) (more connections to Christian Co., KY). William (1784- 10 Sep 1812) was first married in 1803 to Elizabeth Cook they had Abram West in 1806 (died 1857) who married Sina Hadley - lived in the Amo, Hendricks Co., IN area and had 10 children who started a family reunion in 1900 and as of the 1980's were still having a reunion annually. William & Harmon were born in 1813 four months after their father's death.. William never married and may account for why he lived 20 years longer than Harmon (just joking) - William died in 1892. Harmon married twice. First to Catherine Harned and they had seven children. Second to Tabitha McCorpin and had no children. Harmon died in 1872. All of this from the "History of the Abram West Family" Volume 2 1937 there is a Volume One (1915) and a Volume Three (1951) - I have Volume 2 and 3. William, Senior's father, Ignatius was a brother to my ancestor Thomas West, Jr. - their father being Thomas West, Sr. John G. West At 11:40 AM 4/18/2004 -0700, you wrote: >Hi! Hi! I'm new to the list and am researching Wests, Lacys, Hendersons, and related families. I'm a West, Henderson, and Lacy myself, but my line stayed in NC when everyone else went to KY. I ended up in Michigan, with no family here at all. Hoping to find someone with pictures of some of my folks. I've been blessed with finding many cousins with family pictures, but no Lacys yet. Harmon and William West, twins, were my double-cousins; sons of Susanna Lacy and Wm West Sr. Would especially appreciate any info on them. Many many years ago, I lived for a short time in Hopkinsville. Had no idea that I was "home". Nancy Jones dotsicle
David E. McCord (22 May 1862-22 Jan 1952) married Cornelia Belle Mosley (9 January 1866-26 Dec. 1944) on 5 Dec 1883. They are both buried in Cansler #2 Cemetery, Christian Co. The only other McCord buried in that cemetery is their son Richard Garnett McCord (4 Sept 1889-May 22, 1978). This infant might well be theirs, as the time is right, but where is buried?
