Subscribers come and subscibers go over a period of time. For myself, I have been on several maillists for an extended period of time. On this maillist I have submitted my data on several occasions and have had some responses asking for help or offering help. One of the biggest efforts in my mind was the making of a Casey County +ACI-Family+ACI- Gedcom wherein a large number of us sent in our individual Gedcom and Larry merge those into a +ACI-Casey County Family Gedcom+ACI-. This Gedcom could be imported into your own Genealogy Program (in my case FTM) and the many connections between families was amazing. I don't recall if Larry required a person to have sent him their Gedcom in order for him to send them the +ACI-Casey+ACI- Gedcom.....but don't believe there was such a requirement. Anyway, the point of this first comment is that some of us may have the information we seek right in our own programs but don't take the time to search for it or don'y know how to search for it+ADs- secondly, perhaps individuals didn't care or know how to participate in Larry's effort. Just ask, we all friends+ACE- The second comment I also provided to another Maillist in the last few days. On that list several individuals were upset and one really angry because no one had sent them the data they were seeking and +ACI-two months have pasted and I gave all of you plenty of time+ACEAIg-.........Perhaps none of us have the data you are seeking, and a hundred subscribers sending a +ACI-I don't know+ACI- messages in reply to your query is just as bad as a hundred subscribers sending a +ACI-Thank You+ACI- message to the maillist. A waste of all our time. One last comment. In the past seven months I have been rather ill, spent some time in the hospital, in a lot of pain and taking morphine every 4 hrs.....During that period I probably have seen queries that I want to answer or may have some information, and so have sent a reply that as soon as I can I will look up in FTM and paper files to see if I have anything for you......I print out a copy of your message and place it near my keyboard so I can remember it..........the next few days are bad days for me and I am not able to do any +ACI-looking up+ACI-...so I hold the message until I can. Then I find that my daily mail is nearly 85 messages and the wife is constantly telling me to stay off the phone in case the Doctor calls back...........you get the picture+ACE- Sometimes I am two months before I can find the energy and time to do a simple lookup.....but please bear with me. To sum all this up..let's be patient with each other+ACE- While waiting for someone to help you, see how much time you have to help others. I'm retired and 69 yrs old, but I'm mindful that many of you are still employed and work at least 8 hrs, come home to fix dinner, do laundry, play with the kids, do your taxes, work on the car, go to soccer leagues, pay the bills, and finally turn on the computer.......when do you sleep? If I have promised to do something for somebody, don't be unhappy, send me a gentle reminder of what you're looking for......... Thanks for the soap box this morning+ACE- BTW, I might mention that yesterday I received two, read two, of the worm messages that have been forwarded through computers of one of my 3 maillist (I think)........Any of you having Norton Anti-Virus programs on your computers can go to your Norton Program and use the online button to ring up Norton and download their fix in a few minutes depending on your modem rate. The upgrade is dated 7 Jun 99, about 2.12 meg, and as usual is free. Hal, from sunny Northern California+ACE-
