Larry; As long as you give folks the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes people are just beginning and have nothing, or very little to give in exchange. I just found a gentleman researcher who has been working on my lines for decades. He could take one of my lines back to 400 a.d. Before I found him it was a brick wall. I tied right into the information he had on my line, so there was no doubt it was the same family. But all I had to give were 4 generations down that line! He had given gedcoms and reports that took decades of time to accumulate. I'm sure it will end up in the hands of some young researchers later down the line, because he passed it on to me! But for now, I am a taker on this line. Sometimes. people are new, just putting feelers out and then give up Sometimes, we loose messages, and much as we think about responding the opportunity is gone with the message Sometimes, people don't know they should answer all inquiries. I try to answer every personal email. A few have slipped through the cracks, and if any of you are missing a response from me, I want you to know it wasn't intentional!!! And yes, there probably those who just want to take. But, most folks true in their intent to do genealogical research are BIG GIVERS. I haven't met many who take advantage. They don't stay long enough for me to feel bad about them. In KY I am researching the areas between BARDSTOWN and LIBERTY...surnames are: SWEENEY, STALLINGS, HALL, PHILLIPS, LEEMAN, NOE, BEAM, PEAK, NEVITT, BEALL, MAGRUDER, MILBURN, CARTWRIGHT, and quite a few more..........Christen A.
