From what I can tell, the medical laws were set up on a state by state basis. I found a book at Lima Public Library in Lima, Ohio, that was specific to the history of the town doctors of that area. My mother's ancestors (NOT the Wethington bunch, that's dad's family) include a country doctor from NW Ohio. In the late 1800s, Ohio started requiring medical doctors to get training from accredeted medical schools and also be licensed by the state. My ancestor graduated in 1880 from Miami Medical College in Cincinatti and met all the requirements for being officially listed on the medical society rosters. The book doesn't have anything specific to Kentucky, but maybe this story provides a clue what to look for. Paula Wethington Rose
