Hello Casey ancestor hunters, I will be working at the Casey Co. fair this year collecting more info on our history. I now have about 42,000 people in my database which is possible only because of the help of many people. Last fall about 20 of you contributed your gedcoms to me which I merged and sent back out. Since then I have acquired Dr. Lewis Wesley's 6,000 person gedcom and merged it with the others for a total of abt. 42,000. I am again looking for more gedcoms so that at the fair we can possibly already have a contributors ancestors in the computer. If anyone will send me new info on Casey ancestors in gedcom form I will send them the big file after the fair. If you do not know how to create a gedcom just attach your Family Tree Maker or Paf or whatever type file you have to an email to me. Please be sure to tell me what type of file it is. I would like to offer a few suggestions on a family database. Please estimate the birthdate as accurately as possible but ESTIMATE! This will keep a John Doe of 1750 from being considered as a possible duplicate of a 1970 John Doe. Even if you are 20 years off it will help alot. For the sake of estimating I use an unknown brides date of first marriage as age 20 thus the first child at age 21. The second child would be age 23 and the third would be age 25. If only one child is listed I assume that a typical family of the 1800's could have 20 productive years so say from age 21 to age 41 for the female. Thus if only one child is known assume it is in the middle of the productive years or the age of the mother would be age 31. I add 5 years for the male. I guess him getting married for the first time @ age 25 and first child at age 26. Do the same middle years guessing (age 36 for 1 unless known to only have one) for only one child named. Also as important as any thing is to report to the Casey list any mistakes found in the big gedcom. We need to kill these mistakes before they get repeated. The big gedcom is only a guide and not the Bible so expect a few mistakes among the majority of good info. Thanks for your help. Larry Witt 606-678-8821
