Jenny, Which published Census do you have? Mine is by "Bicentenial Heritage Corporation, 1979". It shows: Family 359 BUTT, Ambrose 67 M Farmer 200 VA Sophia 56 F MD Sophia G. 12 F KY 1 (1= Persons over 20 YOA who cannot read or write) 12 YOA would mean her mother gave birth at 44 and her father was 55. (My dad was born when his mother was 36 and his father 61. There must be something in the Casey County water!) The "1" would imply that she was over 20. The 1841 tombstone would mean she was 9 at the time of the 1850 Census. I've run into this with some of my Census research, too. Sophia Butt age 12 is listed with Ambrose and Sophia Butt on printed census book, but I've been told by some of their descendants that no way is Sophia their daughter.
