ALVIN LOWES HONORED ON 60TH ANNIVERSARY (1970-Ottawa, IL Newspaper) Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lowe Sr., 723 Union, Sunday were honored at a celebration marking their 60th wedding anniversary. The observance, in the home of the celebrants son and daughter-in-law of Norway, came as a complete surprise to the couple. Mr. Lowe is 80 and his wife is 78. Scores of relatives were among those present in addition to Mr. & Mrs. Lowe's nine children, 32 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lowe prior to her marriage, was Pearl Edwards. She was born in Casey County, KY, and her husband's birth place was in Taylor County. Both are keen of mind and retain a sense of humor. Mrs. Lowe laughingly told of the days when muddy roads in her area when she was barely over 18, were impassable at the time she and her husband had planned to be married. She said: "You will not believe this. But do you know, the roads were so muddy that no one could get out of them. So we were married in a buggy!" The Lowes have lived in Marseilles 48 years.
