    3. 10 YEARS AGO TODAY Week of July 27,1988 Rick Buck displayed a $50 check and two trophies he won in the Demolition Derby at the Boyle County Fair. He won the third heat and finished fourth out of 18 cars in the feature race. Alice Cochron celebrated her 79th birthday with her family and friends July 24. Obituaries: Christine Lawless,63; Eva Margaret Wilkinson,68; Charles Leo Norman,74; Nora Ethel Payne Gaffney,88. Ryan Travis Black celebrated his second birhtday July 25. He is the son of Gary and Karen Black of Poplar Hill. The Galilean Home Ministries received a $5,000 grant from Ronald Mc Donald Children's Charities to provide additional services and programs for it's special children. Jonathan Wilkerson was awarded the Outdoorsman Award from the Department of Fish and Wildwife Resources. 20 YEARS AGO Week of July 27, 1978 Obituaries: Mary Helen Wethington, 70; Mary Lynn, 58; Hobert L. Dick, 64; Everlee Padgett, 87; Tina Pearl Patterson, 70. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ewing were chosen mother and father of the year at the Campbells - ville Christain Church. The Casey Marchants won the Men's Class A District 18 Softball Tournament in Campbellsville. They were coached by Homer Spears and Paul Price. The Casey Merchants girl's teams won the Women's Class A District 18 Softball Tournament at Campbellsville. They were coached by Randy Wethington and Clarence Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Patton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 22. Midge McFarland was named the newspaper's July "Citizan of the Month." 30 YEARS AGO Week of August 1,1968 The extension office hired Mary Martin as it's new secretary. The Ladies Aid had it's annual fish fry July 24 at the Roadside Park in Liberty. Jerry Lucas was schelduled to teach mathematics at Casey County High School.He graduated from Campbellsville College with a minor in history and math. A small theif went through a back window at Allen's Jewelry's taking several watches. 40 YEARS AGO Week of July 31, 1958 Drs. C.B. Creech and Garnett Sweeny were given 15- year service awards for serving as unpaid medical advisors for the Selective Service System. Florence Vaught of the Crossroads Store near Bethleridge was awarded a certificate of merit by the Ky-Cream Improvement Association in cooperation with the Dairy Section, University of Kentucky.
