Leonard Streeval for his radio ministry program broadcasting for more than 21 years. Obituaries: Troxie Ashley, 81; Erma Montgomery Shermenti, 79; Kendrick Lee Shea, 54; Deward W.Campbell,63;John Franklin Ambers,68; Carlos A. McQueary, 67. Garnett R. Clements accepted the service technician's position with Kentucky Utilities Company in the Liberty area. Greg Tapscott,14-year-old son of Shirley and Cathy Tapscott of Caney Fork Ridge,won a $50 savings bond after finding a balloon in a field near his home. 20 YEARS AGO Week of August 24,1978 Daniel Ray Blevens was 3 years old August 27. Taylor, 70. Tarter-Roberts Insurance broke ground for a buildong that would contain two new buisness offices and two 2-bed- room apartments. Attendance at Corinth Church August 20 was 74 and the offering was $191. Ricky Poff killed a 50-inch long,7 1/2 inch circumference rattle snake on Dry Ridge. 30 YEARS AGO Week of August 29,1968 Marion Murphy was hired as the instructor for the greenhouse class for adults. Obituaries: Elizabeth Abigail Walden, 99; Jewell Ware Keller, 60, Mary Wiles, 55. The Casey County Sportsman's Club purchased a 40 acre farm on Allen Creek north of Jack Bell's Store just off U.S. 127. Two Casey boys received honors at the State Fair.Jack Coffey, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Coffey of Phil, placed third in the 4-H land judging contest. Norman Gosser,a senior,son of Mr. and Mrs.Haskel Gosser, won seventh place in the 4-H land judging contest. Pvt. E2 Lewis Carmicle left for Germany. Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Short were entertained with an open house on their 50th wedding anniversary at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Short. 40 YEARS AGO Week of August 28,1958 Obituareis: Samuel L. Patton, 50; Charley Foster, 30;Mary Ann Wheeler Spears,82. Poplar Grove Baptist Church on Chelf Ridge held its home-coming August 31. Arnold Davis, an honor student at Middleburg and Berea College received his master's degree from the University of Tennessee. Four Casey County farmers collected a total of $549,000 from losses to livestock in spite of the county selling only 57 dog tags. The Future Farmers of America students attended the Leadership Training Center at Hardinsburg.
