Marilyn, I show Laura J. Hatter as the daughter of Walton "Watt" A. Hatter and Eliza Patterson; that she was born about 1864; she married George Washington Patterson, (son of Green Berry Patterson and Permelia Perkins), on Oct 7, 1882, and they had a son, Jesse Patterson, about 1883. After reviewing this data, I'm sorta curious about its validity, though! I show that "Watt" was born Jan 28, 1851 - which would mean that he was 13 when Laura was born! Hmmmmm... Hi Dennis, I'm confused also! Maybe there were 2 Laura HATTERs? In the 1870 census Walter A HATTER is listed in his father's, Richard, household. He is listed as age 19 and at school for his occupation. In the 1870 census, Mary B Black, living with her father, Silas BLACK, is 3 years old. So, she was born about 1867. (Since, Laura Hatter, granddaughter of Richard is 12 in 1880, Mary B Black cannot be her mother.) In the 1880 census a Watt Hatter is living with his wife Lizzie. He is stated as being 24 years old. Lizzie is stated as being 22 years old. They are not living with any children of their own. They are living with his brother, Sam, and sister-in-law, Nancy, and 2 nieces. Watt did have a brother named Samuel. I'm not sure about the discrepancy with ages. Is this Watt, the son of Richard? (Since, Laura Hatter, granddaughter of Richard is 12 in 1880, This Lizzie cannot be her mother.) In one source - Watt Hatter's daughter, Laura married Hobert ESTES. They had 2 children - Glory Belle Estes and Betty Gene Estes. source - "Descendants of John Matthews Hatter, found in the Hatter folder at the Casey County Library. Sorry, I did not note the submitter. In the Kentucky death index, 1911 to present (Ancestry.com) There is a Hobert ESTES from Casey County. He died on October 24, 1991 at the age of 90. Here is one more reason I think there are 2 Laura Hatters. In the 1910 Census, Casey County Kentucky sd 11, ed 44, sheet 6A Watt Hatter Household: Watt is 58 years old, married for the 2nd time for 20 years. His wife is Mary B, 33 years old, this is her 1st marriage Children: Mack 17 years John L 13 years Eva 7 years Laura 6 years old !!! William T 2 years old This Laura could not be the wife of George Patterson. So, who are the parents of the Laura Hatter who appears as the granddaughter of Richard Hatter in 1880; and is she the same laura Hatter that married George Patterson? Thanks for any help or insights! Marilyn
