    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: POINTER POYNTER HENDERSON CAMPBELL CHISM GADDIS HARDWICK RAILEY Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.kentucky.counties.casey/3316.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Gravestone pictures of Susan and Aaron Thomas Poynter will be found on Findagrave.com where they are buried in the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Collin Co. TX. James Pointer married Susanna Henderson on 8 September 1822 in Wayne Co. KY. A copy of the original record may be obtained from Wayne Co. Indexes of this marriage have used multiple spellings of both of their names which has confused many as to whom they were. However the record is fairly clear except for the fact that Poynter/Pointer was spelled "PINTER", not unusual when you learn that Pointer today is still pronounced as PINTER with a long "I", by some native Kentuckians. The children of James Pointer and Susannah Henderson included the following known children: 1. Sintha Litha Pointer m. Moses Campbell 26 Jun 1840(not proven, but believed to be their daughter) 2. Tarlton Pointer m. Elizabeth Chism 18 Nov 1845 3. Elsey ONeal Pointer m. 1. Mary Jane Gaddis 9 Jan 1855 2. Elizabeth Hardwick 18 Nov 1857, 3. Sarah Gilpin 3 sep 1864 and 4. Eliza ???abt 1867. 4. James Allen Pointer m. Elizabeth Ann Campbell abt 1847 5. Aaron Thomas Pointer m. Susan Chism 14 Nov 1830 6. William M. Pointer m. Louisa (or Larissa) Railey about 1860. All of the above marriages are believed to have taken place in Casey Co. The spelling of the name in some of the Pointer lines was noticeably changed to Poynter about the late 1800's - early 1900's with more universal education both of families and of census takers. There has been switching between both spellings. Both spellings are found in England back to the 1500's and in France was found as "Pointier". However, it is necessary to point out that the name "Pointer" had occupational characteristics not unlike the name "Shoemaker" and thus did not always indicate bloodlines in the earliest years in Europe.

    3. I am interested in the marriage of Elsey ONeal Poynter and Mary Jane Gaddis. Mary Jane was a sister of my great grandfather. Since they were married in 1855 and he had remarried in 1857, I am assuming that Mary Jane died. Do you know if they had any children? I am thinking she may have died in childbirth. Do you have any other information on the Gaddis family. I am especially interested in where Thomas and Lucinda Noel Gaddis died. They would have been the grandparents of Mary Jane. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.
