Martha (Peyton) Kemp had died prior to 30 October 1871 the date of the writing of the will of her father, Valentine Peyton (1809-1875) the will is recorded in Casey Co., Ky. Will Book 3, pages 372-374. Martha (Peyton) Kemp's sister, Leanah Peyton, estate Hancock County, Illinois, Record Book, P., p 109 (papers in Box 313) lists the living Kemp children of Martha Peyton. Leanah Peyton (1834-1905) died 16 Feb. 1905 at Alberum Wheat Peyton and Mary (Peyton) Peyton, Section 34 Wilcox Twp., near Warsaw, Hancock Co., Illinois. Leannah is buried in the John Peyton Cemetery, The stone reads: Leannah Peyton daughter of Valentine Peyton of Casey County, KY born 15 March 1837 died 16 Feb 1905. Heirs listed on 28 February 1905 when letters of administration were given to Alberum Wheat Peyton were: " Vincent Peyton of Ellisburg, Kentucky her brother, and children of her deceased sister Bet Cochran Leanah Shearrin, and Mary Cochran that the said Bet Cochran lives in Louisville, Kentucky; and that the said Leanah Shearrin and Mary Cochran live in Casey County, Kentucky." That your petitioner, with whom the said decedent made her home, and a distant relative of hers. (Note: A. W. Peyton (1855-1931), was the husband of Leanah's niece, Mary Peyton (1870-1952). Mary was the daughter of 1st Lt. Vincent Peyton and his first wife, Sarah Jane Gibson (1842-1870) born and buried, nr Jeffersonville, Montgomery Co., KY in the Gibson Cemetery) (Note: Still haven't figured how A. W., and Leanah are related. In a statement earlier he said that his father, John Peyton and Leanah had the same great grandfather. It has to go back a lot farther than that) Leanah's great-grandfather was Valentine of Lincoln Co. (1749-1831) and John's great grandfather is not known at present his grandparents were: James Peyton (1761/2-1817) died Casey Co, and Elizabeth (Cox) Peyton (1765-1828) See Casey Co., Ky. Wills and Estates. The revised list of the heirs on the estate of Leanah Peyton, deceased gives: Vincent Peyton, her brother, Ellisburg, Kentucky Bettie Cochran, daughter of her deceased sister, Louisville, Kentucky 1620 Wm. St. Mary C. Cochran, another daughter of the deceased sister, Liberty, Kentucky Monnie Shearrin, Arron Shearrin George Shearrin, and Mary Shearrin, all of Powers, Kentucky, and being the only children and descendans of a deceased daughter of the same deceased sister; and Bertha Kemp and Nona Kemp of Clinton, Illinois, the only children and descendants of a deceased son of the same deceased daughter; and that the said Shearrin and Kemp children are all minors, the said Shearrin children living with their father Jack Shearrin, and the said Kemp children living with their mother, Fannie Kemp. and this affiant further states on information and belief that there are no heirs of the said Leanah Peyton, deceased, except as above stated. Final distribution May Term, 1906 Hancock Co., Il. dated 31 May 1906 Note: the deceased sister of Leanah Peyton refers to Martha (Peyton) Kemp and the deceased brother refers to John Bailey Kemp. 1880 census shows: Mary C Kemp aged 16 Martha Kemp aged 14 (not named in the estate of Aunt Leanah 1905) John Bailey Kemp aged 13 (referred to as the deceased son of deceased sister) Leannah Kemp aged 11 (either died after 16 Feb 1905 or before 27 Mar 1906) Elizabeth "Bettie" Kemp born 1871 Many of the Peytons of Casey County are to be found in the 2004 edition of the book The Peytons of Virginia, II, Vols. Vincent Peyton (there were many other Vincent Peytons) was married on 27 September 1831 to Molly Portman (1808-1845) in Casey Co., Ky. She died. Valentine peyton,her father mentions him in ,his will. Pinkney then married?April 4, 1871?Marietta Edwards King, a widow.??Pinkney was later shot?by accident through an open door in his country store. Judy
