    1. [KYCASEY] National Archives to cut their hours of operation
    2. Suzanne Shephard
    3. In late July, the National Archives announced they were planning to cut back the hours of the Washington DC area facilities of the archives. This would eliminate all evening and Saturday hours and greatly harm the ability of the average genealogist to access the records. For full details, see http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2006/nr06-125.html While the Archivist of the United States was at the FGS conference he reported that they had received very little feedback from the country's genealogists asking for reconsideration. He was also presented with a request from the chair of the FGS Records Preservation Committee to consider some alternatives and a petition was started to allow genealogists to express their disagreement with the changes and to endorse alternatives that will allow the evening and Saturday hours to continue. You can see more details about that in Dick Eastman's weekly newsletter at: http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2006/09/quick_please_jo.html The petition can be signed at: http://www.petitiononline.com/FGS2006 The deadline for receiving comments on the proposed changes by the archives is September 9, so there isn't much time. And if they succeed in reducing the Washington hours, the regional archives will probably follow. Suzanne Shephard

    1. [KYCASEY] Margaret Kirkland/Randolph White
    2. shari
    3. Does anyone have Randolph White and Margaret Kirkland line? I am curious as to whether any of their children remained in Casey Co. KY after Randolph and Margaret removed to Howard Co. MO. I am REALLY thinking that the Harvy White in 1850 census, m. to Eliza or Elizabeth, was of Randolph and Margaret's line. Maybe Harvy/Hary White was a William Harvy White. I know many people were in places in between censuses and came back to homestead. I am wondering if Randolph sold off all his land---or did one or two of the older children remain with family in KY--or on Randolph's land. I sent for his Rev. War pension papers from National Archives. I passed them on to a lady who has this line. As far as I can tell, Randolph was of no relation to my George White. There were 30 pages of great reading. Only one son is named, and that was Thomas. He gave a deposition about his father. Randolph was turned down for a pension due to being unable to prove his service. Goodness, Margaret must have had quite the determination to prove differently. After Randolph died, she wrote letters (or someone else wrote them on her behalf), to the War Dept. She sounded so "right on" with those gov't men in Washington and how they could lose track of him. She proved that he ws discharged as a Sgt--and in 1848, (maybe it was 1846) she received a $40.00 month pension. That was a lot of money for those days. Let me say, I think it was $40 monthly. Without the papers in front of me, I can't be sure. Does anyone know when Randolph White and Margaret Kirkland White left Casey Co. for MO? I have often wondered if he left aft. my George d. in 1824---and a few of George's kids went with them. Have I lost it---or what!!!! I recently sent to the KY Land Office for land records for one Benjamin White (assignee Mr. White) for 1807-1808 on Fishing Creek, Casey Co. KY. I sent for the several George White's listed. He was assigned land from Marshall Markham. In 1814, the land assignee was Jonathan Flourney/Flournoy. I don't know if all the George's listed for land in Lincoln-Casey were the same one---or several different George's. I also sent for land record of one James White as assignee to Katherine (Catherine) White. This was for Lincoln Co. KY abt. 1787. Nathaniel Evans was made a trustee to Catherine. She was going to assign land to one John Bently/Bentley, but that was retracted. I did not send for any of Randolph White land transactions. He is not in my line. Hmmm, maybe I should have sent for those land records. This will likely cost me a small fortune. There was a Henry White m. Elizabeth Rossen in 1808 Casey Co. KY marriage page. They seem to disappear, unless their marriage date is wrong--and they are the Harvy and Eliza in 1850. Harvy shows born abt. 1819-1820. Heck, maybe he was one of George's kids using a middle name (sons were Andrew, Ely, Eson, William, Nathan, John, James, and George Washington White). George Washington, being my 2nd gr-grandfather. Daughters were Sally, Esther, Catherine, Nancy, Isabel, Patsey, and Polly. Also, does anyone have lines that went into Owens Co. IN from Casey Co. KY. I think the line of Joel White and Pressley White of 1810 Mercer Co. KY went there. There was a Pressly White (1801-1857) buried in one of the cemeteries in Owens Co. IN. In 1820 Owens Co. IN, there was a Jedidiah White, one Benjamin White, and a few others. There was a Thomas White m. to an Elizabeth. Elizabeth was found in one of the cemeteries, d. 1851 at age 69, as w/o Thomas White. Could this be Thomas White and Elizabeth Cooley? I just am not sure of the dates in Randolph's line of children. I was told that Margaret White (d/o Randolph and Margaret) also m. one Samuel Jackson in Owens Co. IN---and returned to MO. I just don't know how true this is. I am trying to put together all those Whites in Casey Co. KY censuses. I know Eson/Eason/Esam goes to George White and Eunice Dungan. I am not sure about William White, m. Catherine Mitchell. And, was Catherine Mitchell White also known as "Dasker" White in 1860 or 1870. Could Dasker White be a name for Darkis or Darkes (as in surname of Darkes)? I know there is variations for Dorcus and Darcus. Thank you and hope no one gets as totally confused as I am over the line of Whites. Shari
